BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company) Environmental Compliance Specialist in Holdrege, Nebraska

Job Description SummaryThe Environmental Compliance Specialist will lead the Environmental Program for a medical device manufacturing facility in Holdrege, NE. The position is responsible for ensuring compliance with all local, state, federal and BD environmental regulations, policies and procedures. The person maintains compliance with all BD quality systems, policies, procedures and practices.

Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide oversight and direction for day-to-day compliance with applicable air, hazardous waste, wastewater and storm water permits, plans, regulations, etc.

  • Ability to interpret environmental laws and permit requirements, stay abreast of the changing regulatory landscape and analyze the various options for complying with new regulations and permit requirements.

  • Coordinate the reporting and record keeping activities for facility’s permits and other environmental regulatory reporting requirements and corporate sustainability data tracking requirements.

  • Update, maintain and implement site HazMat Contingency Plan and provide support with maintaining the site’s Business Continuity Plan.

  • Provide oversight and guidance for permitting and implementation of environmental regulations on various new or developing projects

  • Update and deliver environmental training programs as required to ensure compliance with regulations and permits

  • Interface with Environmental Regulatory Agencies, Corporate environmental health and safety leadership & lead inspections and audits.

  • Maintain and update Hazardous Waste Management program.

  • Develop and conduct periodic Environmental audits and assessments, document findings and assisting plant leadership in resolving discrepancies.

  • Lead plant in the design and or improvement of processes that minimize environmental hazards and reduce waste as a primary objective

  • Lead Environmental Work Group to implement and sustain ISO-14001 Standard.

  • Evaluate risks & incidents and identify areas where costs and loss can be improved.

  • Lead Hazard Communication Compliance for the plant. Assure current chemical plant inventory is comprehensive, responsible for maintenance of the online SDS database accessed by all associates.

  • Development of environmental training materials

  • Conduct training where area subject matter expert is needed

  • Maintenance of the site pest management program

  • Implement processes to comply with the obligations of the permits, plans and regulations, ensure that the processes are operational and effective.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Environmental, Health and Safety; Occupational Health and Safety, Chemical or Bio-systems Engineering or a related field preferred).

  • Minimum of 2 yrs experience working with manufacturing environmental compliance or closely related field required.

  • Experience in managing environmental compliance including reporting and record keeping, environmental permitting for all media, manufacturing operations, regulatory reviews, etc.

  • Clerical competencies associate with data entry; word processing, filing, organizing files, scheduling training, coordinating activities, planning

  • 30 hour OSHA training
