BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company) Operations Leader/Manager in Andover, Massachusetts

Job Description SummaryThe Operations Leader/Manager is responsible for all material purchases for New Product Development, ensures no inventory outages while minimizing obsolete materials, ensures control of all materials, manages shipping, receiving, warehouse and material flow, manages the daily production schedule and forecast, provides leadership for the NPD build room, and is responsible for hiring and managing individuals in the Materials & Manufacturing Department.

Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Strategy : Develop the supply chain strategy for the Andover, MA with alignment to BD Best Practices. Establish key performance indicators and develop the necessary analytics, systems and data management capabilities, including metrics and reports to communicate progress against the indicators. Development of inventory procedures and systems

  • Procurement : Manage vendor relationships (e.g., third party logistics). Work with corporate procurement and R&D to establish key vendors for NPD efforts. Manage all contract manufacturers globally (i.e., Printed Circuit Boards, subsystems, etc.) Set up dual sourcing solutions for critical components as needed Clear blocked invoices

  • Logistics : Develop systems and structure to support the necessary inventory activities to deliver on the Andover, MA site shipping and receiving requirements. Plan and implement material flow management systems to meet build requirements. Establish or monitor specific supply chain-based performance measurement systems. Recommend optimal transportation modes, que sizes, routing, equipment, or frequency. Create policies and procedures for logistics and warehouse activities.

  • Manufacturing : Provide leadership to the NPD build room (11 people). Direct supervision of build room operators is provided by a direct report.

  • General: Develop annual plans with prioritization and resource loading. Lead and manage purchasing, forecasting, warehousing, transportation and other areas are required. Direct and manage corporate governance and regulatory compliance within the supply chain. Liaison between ADC NPD and Corporate Procurement. Participate as a key member of the Material Review Board

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Organizational : The incumbent has working knowledge of Drug and Medical Device GMP regulations and ERP systems and processes. The incumbent has working knowledge of methods and procedures used in the manufacture and quality control of medical diagnostic products. The incumbent must be highly motivated with good organizational and analytical/technical problem solving skills inclusive of being highly organized and detail oriented. The incumbent must be a self-starter with capability of working under minimal supervision. The incumbent has effective written and oral communication skills; capable in communicating to multiple audiences, and senior management personnel. The incumbent has meaningful experience with and strong capability to work well in a team based environment and promote teamwork. The incumbent has effective organization, project management and planning skills. The incumbent has very strong and effective interpersonal skills with the ability to develop others and a strong team. The incumbent has theability to set expectations for direct reports and provide timely feedback.

  • Technical: The incumbent is familiar with Supply Chain Planning, Strategic Sourcing, Procurement Processes, Manufacturing Methods and LEAN. Prior experience managing 3rd party vendors and suppliers is desired. The incumbent must have experience writing operating procedures. Capabilities with MRP implementation and system level knowledge for MDE and configuration are desired

  • Functional: The incumbent understands Lean / 5s and CI proficiency with experience in waste reduction. The incumbent has computer skills in Microsoft Office, Project, Visio, Minitab, SAP and QDMS. The incumbent has experience with capital and expense budgets and project timelines across multi-functional disciplines. The incumbent understands how all the functions in a manufacturing plant work together as customers of one another to effectively make a high quality and low cost product. Proven Six Sigma (Black Belt preferred) and Lean experience is desired. The incumbent has an understanding of MES and ERP systems

Supervision

  • This position will have responsibility for the leadership and supervision of warehouse, production and supply chain staff.

Working Conditions

  • Performs job duties in a normal office environment, with frequent exposure to the manufacturing floor.

  • Adheres to plant safety requirements, OSHA and QSR/GMP/ISO guidelines as applicable.

  • Must have physical ability to lift up to 25 pounds repetitively, 40 pounds non-repetitively.

  • Will be exposed to fumes and high frequency noise in manufacturing areas.

  • Safety glasses, hair covering, gowning and hearing protection are required on the manufacturing floor and other designated areas.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in technical related field.

  • MBA Preferred

  • Knowledge in the fields of Manufacturing Operations and the Integrated Supply ChainAPICs certification desired

Experience

  • Experience with MES and MRP systems preferredMinimum five (5) years of experience in Operations leadership and manufacturing management.

  • Minimum three (3) years of experience with managing supply chain and procurement activities.
