The Human Factors Engineer role resides in the Design Validation group that is responsible for all related activities including the planning and execution of human factors, preclinical and clinical trials in support of design development and validation. As a member of a cross-functional project team engaged in new product development for electromechanical and software-driven medical devices. The individual will work closely with R&D, Quality Engineering, Medical Affairs, Regulatory Affairs and Manufacturing to plan and execute Human Factors Studies.

Job Description

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Generate protocols and obtain IRB approval for user studies.

  • Support study product build and product release according to BD corporate requirements, FDA requirements, and international quality standards.

  • Coordinate with team and/or external vendors to execute human factors protocols.

  • Complete data analysis, generate reports, and communicate findings to cross-functional team.

  • Update user-related documents (ex, uFMEA) based on findings.

  • Support Validation Team with clinical studies and preclinical studies, as needed.

  • Ensure compliance with BD quality policies, procedures, and practices through appropriate communication, training, and education of sound quality assurance principles.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BS in human factors engineering, industrial design, mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering or related discipline with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience or a combination of equivalent education and experience

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a human factors engineering role.

  • Experience in medical device or other regulated industry is preferred

  • Complete understanding of application of technical principles, theories and concepts in the field of Human Factors Engineering including compliance standards.

  • Excellent communication, problem solving, organizational and interpersonal skills are essential

  • Experienced in data acquisition and good laboratory practices

  • Full proficiency in Microsoft Office required

  • Experience with Minitab or other statistical analysis package

  • Self-motivated and directed

  • Demonstrated ability to work in teams to obtain results is required

  • Effective skills in analytical thinking and problem solving required
