Job Description SummaryFlowJo, a subsidiary of Becton, Dickinson and Company (BD) Biosciences in Ashland, OR is seeking an experienced Software Engineer to help design and implement our web and server based software solutions. A candidate should passionate about software engineering with a strong technical background, great communication and excellent IT skills, and demonstrable experience in web-oriented technology stack including HTML, CSS, Javascript, NodeJS, and a frontend framework such as React/Redux, Angular or equivalent. Individual should have a solid understanding of what it takes to build advanced applications including security, session management, schemas, data migrations, data persistence layers such JSON data structure and relational databases, logging, hands-on experience with network diagnostics, and network analytics tools.

Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Write well designed, testable, efficient code by incorporating software development best-practices and anticipating future use cases.

  • Work with our designs and customer experience teams to implement user interfaces and user experiences to meet or exceed design intent.

  • Integrate data from back-end services and databases into frontend and backend services.

  • Interpret product requirements and create engineering specifications.

  • Create and maintain appropriate developer documentation.

  • Work with other stakeholders to determine and refine functional and non-functional requirements as necessary.

  • Take ownership and work with other stakeholders and the rest of the team to develop implementation plans with attention to feasibility, system integration and maintainability of the solution.

  • Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends, and apply those as appropriate.

  • Ability to insure software meets desired attributes of quality, security, modifiability, and extensibility.

Qualifications

  • BS in computer science, engineering or relevant field, or combination of education and equivalent experience.

  • Demonstrable experience building applications and services in JavaScript.

  • Solid experience writing in vanilla JavaScript, and expertise in at least one frontend framework such as React, Angular, Vue, or similar required.

  • Experience writing in Node, HTML/CSS, and Electron strongly preferred.

  • Solid experience working with unit testing frameworks such as Jest, Chai, or similar.

  • A technical mindset with great attention to detail.

  • Strong passion for problem solving, continuously learning, adapting, and take initiative in a rapid-pace Agile environment.

Bonus Qualifications

  • Experience working on development teams with several software engineers integrating code with git for source control.

  • Familiarity with bash, command-line driven tools, and Linux/Unix operating systems.

  • Demonstrable experience implementing component-driven frontend architecture with React and Redux.

  • Practical experience implementing scalable backend services with thin frameworks like Hapi, Koa, or similar.

  • Experience incorporating TypeScript into the JavaScript development workflow.

  • Demonstrable experience integrating AWS services into an application.

  • Experience working in CI/CD development pipelines such as Travis, Bamboo, or CircleCI and container-driven deployment.

  • Evidence of contributions to open source projects.

  • Science background.

  • Candidate must be located a commutable distance to Ashland, OR, or be williing to relocate to be within such a distance.
