Job Description SummaryReporting to the IDS Engineering Manager/ Sr. Engineering Manager, the Engineering Technician’s primary focus is on the design, fabrication, implementation and debugging of new equipment and modifications to existing equipment with the objective of supporting the implementation of Quality improvements, Capacity expansions and/or Cost Reductions. Works closely with R&D, Quality and manufacturing locations to implement these improved or new technologies.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

Knowledge & Problem Solving:

  • Participates in the design, fabrication, and installation of modifications to production machinery and equipment to improve quality and costs.

  • Working knowledge of wide variety of manufacturing technologies: High volume, high speed assembly and dispense equipment, vision inspections, ultrasonic welding, UV curing, packaging, robotic technology and, pick-n-place.

  • Support project teams and provide technical support in the overall equipment design, fabrication, implementation and optimization of varied and complex portions of existing and new production equipment and machinery.

  • Provides theoretical and hands-on technical support to manufacturing and packaging operations. Proven ability to work in a team environment which identifies root causes then develops and pursues plans toward their resolution.

  • Demonstrates complete understanding of a wide application of technical principles, theories and concepts in a manufacturing environment. Provides technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems. Solutions are imaginative, thorough, and practical.

  • Prepares standards for Preventative Maintenance, Modifications, ECOs, and issues proper documentation for manufacturing.

  • Contributes to the completion of specific programs and projects.

Discretion / Latitude:

  • Works under general direction. Independently determines and develops approach to solutions.

Liaison:

  • This position will serve as a technical liaison between the IDS business Unit and manufacturing locations.

  • Works with cross functional team to investigate & implement solutions to major manufacturing and packaging issues.

Cross Functional Collaboration:

  • Works with diverse functions and manufacturing sites to achieve project goals.

  • Collaborates with other teams of engineers and technicians and coordinate resources to achieve project and business goals.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Follows division policies and guidelines.

  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Travel required between 15% and 50% depending upon project stages.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

EXPERIENCE:

  • A minimum of 5 years of technical experience in a high-speed manufacturing/automated production environment.

  • Requires a high degree of technical skill and experience in working with a wide variety of production equipment. Critical skills needed are a working knowledge of mechanical, electro-mechanical and electronic equipment and the ability to recognize, define and correct equipment deficiencies.

  • This position also requires the ability to collaborate with various other support groups (i.e., Facilities, Machine Shop, etc) to implement equipment installation and improvements.

  • Knowledge of current technology and state of the art in a wide variety of disciplines with familiarity high-speed assembly operations, standards development and statistical engineering, OSHA and FDA validation requirements.

  • Knowledge of PLC Operations, Maintenance and the ability to read schematics or machining, tooling design, tooling assembly and the ability to read part drawings and pneumatic schematics. EDUCATION:

  • Associates of Science in a technical discipline or an equivalent of related work experience and education preferred.

SPECIAL SKILLS:

  • Proficient in WORD, Excel, SolidWorks or AutoCad a plus

  • Must be willing to travel 50% for first year of position- Position Based in MD majority of travel to Massachusetts, Connecticut and NJ.
