BD has an opportunity for a Quality Scientist II at our Sparks, MD location. This position will support technology and method development projects with their technical knowledge and ability. This position supports a cross-functional team working toward the release of products for sale, completion of clinical trials, execution of stability studies, and the completion of blending and cleaning validations. The candidate will apply their chemistry knowledge to perform standardized assays as well as contribute to the execution of internal validations for new analytical chemistry assays and processes.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Works independently under general supervision in a team environment to plan, execute, analyze and interpret analytical chemistry analyses to support the release of product for use or sale. Contributes to investigational analyses to troubleshoot product or determine root cause. Supports internal and external qualifications and test method validations. Supports the execution of stability studies at predetermined timed intervals. Revises test method procedures as necessary. Records results in SAP. Log-in samples and store at the appropriate temperatures. Maintains inventory of all reagents and chemicals, while ensuring reagents are discarded before or at their expiration dates. Performs daily calibrations of equipment, such as balances and pH meters.

  • Candidate is required to make individual contributions in a team environment.

  • Candidate’s primary responsibility will include the execution of various test methods on an assortment of samples.

  • Exceptional time management skills and multitasking abilities are essential, as the samples have relatively short due dates. Knowledge of GLP and GMP practices are a must. Experience running HPLC and/or UPLC is preferred. Experience with Karl Fischer, Infrared spectroscopy, spectrophotometer, LOD, ASH, Kjeldahl Nitrogen, Autotitrators, ICP, manual titrations, and general bench top work is desired. Excellent communication and social skills are required. Attention to detail is a must.

  • Minimum of a B.S. in Chemistry or related field required with 1 year of industrial experience working in an analytical lab

  • Basic MS Office, Empower, SAP preferred
