We are seeking an enthusiastic Scientist I with the skills necessary to work as part of a talented molecular diagnostics team dedicated to developing automated assays using nucleic acid isolation and real-time quantitative amplification technologies for the detection of a wide range of infectious diseases. This person will be responsible for assisting in the design, development, integration and qualification of assays and/or specimen processing workflows on automated diagnostics systems. The successful candidate may also be expected to provide support in execution of clinical studies to validate performance of the assays and assemble relevant information in support of regulatory submissions. # Job Description + Utilizes a broad range of practical techniques in molecular biology in experiments, validations or qualification (i.e. use of pipettes, aseptic technique, gel electrophoresis, primer/probe design, serial dilutions, buffer formulation, organism growth, nucleic acid purification, amplification and detection and working with automated diagnostic instrumentation) + Utilizes basic scientific math principles for setting up and executing experiments (i.e. dilutions, conversions, and statistics) + Proactively collects, records, reports and presents results to peers and supervisor/manager either orally or in writing. + Independent with proven ability to apply scientific principles to achieve project objectives, including the design and execution of experiments, and analysis and interpretation of data. + With oversight, develops/adapts procedures to meet specific objectives and solve problems. + Understands and leverages published research in molecular diagnostics. + Provides technical input to other scientists within Research and Development and provides support to other functional groups. + Drafts protocols for and conducts validation studies as well as analyzes and interprets results. Minimum Qualifications: Education and Experience: + Bachelor degree REQUIRED, preferably in Life Sciences, Bio/Biomedical Engineering, or related. + Minimum 2+ years relevant academic or industry wet-lab work experience required. + Proficiency in a range of techniques in molecular biology including nucleic acid extraction and amplification. + Practiced and capable technical writing skills. + Proficient oral presentation skills. Additional Qualifications and Skills: + Experience in the processing of clinical specimens for the recovery of nucleic acids, together with a strong background in microbiology, virology and/or clinical laboratory science is advantageous.
