Job Description Summary

The Product Support Scientist I will join the Product Support Group for Molecular Reagents Plant in Baltimore, MD. The Molecular plant is part of the IDS segment of Becton Dickinson & Co. The Molecular plant manufactures and develops diagnostic products for detection and identification of infectious agents.

The ideal candidate will have manufacturing and laboratory experience with medical devices or pharmaceutical products. As a part of a team environment, they will contribute to the day-to-day support of operations, as well as projects that may include New Product Development, technical problem resolution, product quality investigations, supplier qualification, process development, scale-up and validation, continuous improvement, and technology transfer. This candidate will support BD Viper XTR, Viper LT, BD COR and Affirm product lines.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

Demonstrate knowledge of a range of practical lab techniques with ability to develop/adapt procedures to meet specific objectives and solve complex problems by working with other team members. Ability to understand and apply scientific principles to achieve project objectives, including the design and execution of experiments, and analysis and interpretation of data.

Collect, record, and interpret experimental results and present data to scientific peers and supervisor/manager either orally or in writing.

Work effectively within cross-functional teams (regulatory, quality, research & development and operations) to reach assigned goals Communicate effectively – including through oral presentation - to update different stakeholders on project progress.

Readily identify problems, analyze them for a solution and provide recommendations as to the appropriate course of action.

Provide Operations support in making RUO and IUO reagents for New Product Development projects. Prepare and perform Verification and Validation studies according to quality standards.

Write and review Operations/Manufacturing documents in SAP Perform tasks under minimum supervision.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS :

  • Working knowledge of a range of laboratory techniques. Ability to apply these techniques in a Laboratory and/or Manufacturing environment.

  • A history of self-motivation is required, together with a strong background in clinical laboratory science and/or engineering. Ability to troubleshoot problems and assist in investigations. Ability to deal with ambiguity and make decisions without 100 percent of the data

  • Experience in handling infectious biological samples is desirable

  • Knowledge of Current Good Manufacturing Practices and Operational Process Optimization is highly desirable.

  • Experience with Lean and Six Sigma tools highly beneficial.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are necessary together with a strong desire to work in a team setting.

  • Proficiency with MS office suite is necessary. Experience with Microsoft Project is a plus

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Life Sciences or related discipline.

  • Minimum of 1 years of laboratory and manufacturing/quality experience in Life Science or related discipline.
