Job Description Summary

The Sr. Manager, Purchasing is responsible for development and effective execution of Supplier and Sourcing strategies at the Business Unit/Site level to optimize cost, ensure security of supply and help ensure new products are launched successfully. This position is responsible for the purchasing process followed by site buyer/planners and regulatory compliance throughout the procurement function and supplier performance management at the Business Unit/Site.

RESPONSIBILIES

  • Develop and implement goals, metrics and Procurement planning activities.

  • Hire, manage, train and mentor associates.

  • Supervise assigned buyer/planners and other associates and develop necessary skill competencies.

  • Provide coaching and leadership to assigned buyer/planners and other associates.

  • Provide development and growth opportunities for associates.

  • Establish succession planning and implement cross-training across all associates.

  • Ensure alignment between Business Unit/Site requirements and Procurement/Sourcing strategy.

  • Ensure material forecasts are provided and capacity planning is done with the suppliers to support the Business Unit/Site requirements and support key business objectives for assurance of supply to mitigate supply risk.

  • Actively participate in escalations of critical supply situations with suppliers, quality and engineering as applicable.

  • Keep the Business Unit/Site management apprised of economic and industrial impacts to the supply of product to BD and provide counsel and support regarding procurement best practices.

  • Identify and collaborate BD procurement resources to support new projects and ongoing business requirements.

  • Ensure new product launches are properly supported by procurement and oversee product launch readiness and ramp-up activity.

  • Maintain compliance to local Procurement and Quality procedures and ensure internal/external regulatory compliance requirements for purchased materials.

  • Establish and maintain Supplier Management at the Business Unit/Site.

  • Establish and maintain Site approved supplier lists and confirm suppliers are qualified and required supplier documentation is maintained.

  • Work with site buyers and Corporate Procurement to achieve supplier quality & delivery performance requirements and to report and monitor supplier performance.

  • Meet with suppliers as necessary to develop strong business relationships to ensure suppliers continue to perform satisfactorily, remain financially viable and maintain necessary capacity for BD.

  • Ensure buyers and suppliers comply with contractual agreements and purchase order commercial terms.

  • Establish material standard costs for each fiscal year. Provide quarterly forecasts for material cost changes to ensure visibility and planning by the BU to manage costs and financial goals. Standard costs and quarterly forecasts are key activities that directly impact gross profits for Business Unit/Site and overall financial goals.

  • Support delivery of cost-savings, continuous improvement (CI) and value-add projects to support business financial goals.

  • Identify and evaluate opportunities and build business case to pursue projects.

  • Secure business resources to implement the project and address roadblocks impacting project deliverables.

  • Ensure successful supplier transitions (supplier-to-supplier, outsourcing, insourcing)

  • Work with the Global Procurement team to support strategy development, execution, and supplier management. Close collaboration to achieve aligned objectives and support overall sourcing excellence and management.

  • Support / manage the change control processes for materials that are purchased.

EXPERIENCE:

Prefer 7 years’ experience in purchasing, production control, inventory control, and/or manufacturing/operations

COMPETENCIES:

  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems - SAP (ECC and SCM/APO) experience preferred

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point)

  • Demonstrated ability to follow established policies and procedures

  • Proven track record in leading change and achieving results, with or without direct authority

EDUCATION:

BA/BS degree in Supply Chain, Business, Finance, Accounting or relevant field of study.

MBA or Master’s degree in related field preferred.

CERTIFICATIONS:

APICS or ISM Certification

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Production Planning or Demand Planning experience preferred in addition to Procurement/Purchasing.
