About the role:

As a Systems Engineer you will be responsible for technology integration in projects and systems that have both life science/chemistry and instrumentation/engineering components. You are member of a team that ensures adequate system level performance for instrumented diagnostic systems through close collaboration with assay development, hardware design, software, and other functional groups.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Provides technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems. Solutions are imaginative, thorough, practicable, and consistent with objectives. Exercises some latitude in determining technical objectives of the assignment methods and in selecting techniques and evaluation criteria for acquiring resolution.

  • Contributes to the completion of milestones associated with specific projects. Failure to obtain results or erroneous decisions may cause delays in program schedules.

  • Contributes to management of product requirements and high-level design specifications under the direction of a supervising System Integrator.

  • Assumes a technical contributor role and works closely with other functional groups, especially assay development and engineering.

  • Independently evaluates problems of moderate complexity and applies analytical/scientific principles to fulfill project and business objectives. Designs and performs development activity independently within defined parameters with minimal direction.

  • May have inter-organizational and outside customer contacts on routine matters.

  • Applies standard principles, theories and concepts in the field and has solid understanding of other related subject areas. Provides solutions to a variety of technical problems of moderate scope and complexity.

  • Suggests improvements in and adaptations to methodologies, processes, products and systems related to particular projects

  • Tests, analyzes and interprets data and development situations/events requiring evaluation of identifiable factors

  • Records, reports, interprets and analyzes data, presents results to multi-functional colleagues and leaders.

About you:

Ideally, you will have familiarity with diagnostic instrumentation, preferably that which maximizes key automation technologies such as but not limited to fluid handling, robotics, imaging systems, thermoelectric incubators, and spectral/fluorescent analysis.

Education and experience required:

  • A BS or MS in Engineering or Life Sciences

  • Entry-level candidate with related internship or thesis-based applications in fields such as Medical Technology, Life Sciences, and Diagnostic Instrument development or a combination of education and experience.

  • 1-2 years experience with in vitro diagnostic development and troubleshooting desired.
