Job Description Summary

Provides technical assistance to operators and setups in the set up and debug of equipment, the startup of new equipment, and modification of existing equipment in the Label Production Area. Works directly with Production Facilitators and Process Engineering to identify design changes with the potential to yield productivity benefits. Provides technical training on machine adjustments and maintenance, as well as machine monitoring to diagnose problems. Provides leadership in support of Label Production goals and objectives, including setting and meeting scheduling requirements to maintain maximum output, ensuring availability of required materials, and achieving budgeted costs of production and quality.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Diagnoses and corrects mechanical malfunctions. Monitors and improves preventative maintenance on machines.

  • Performs and directs cleanup and preventative maintenance of the printing equipment in accordance with equipment manuals and vendor recommendations; refer major equipment problems to Facilitator and/or Process Engineering resource.

  • Sets up printing press and slitter to run proper labels. Operates both printing presses and slitter in such a manner as to produce quality labels.

  • Trains newly assigned Label Printing personnel on job functions and trains all new and revised procedures to build skills and abilities.

  • Monitors daily productivity and waste reports. Identifies problem areas prohibiting the Label Production area from meeting established budgeted costs of operation and reviews appropriate corrective actions with the department Facilitator.

  • Keeps abreast of machine development, makes modifications that are applicable to the production operations and makes recommendation as appropriate for new equipment acquisitions.

  • Inspects the raw materials to ensure the proper label stock and ink is used for label production. Checks quality and correctness of incoming printing mats, mat materials, and has the ability to operate the mat making process. Directs cycle counting, inventory control, and reordering of printing inks, printing mat material and paper stock used in the printing of labels.

  • Makes repairs on all printing equipment; works with Maintenance, Engineering and/or Tool Room on major repairs. Works with Engineering for productivity improvements in equipment operations. Maintains a proper inventory of spare parts. Coordinates Press manufacturer maintenance visits.

  • Assists in the planning and scheduling of product manufacturing requirements supplied from Material Control for both internal and external customers.

  • Follows safety procedures, and meets all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s) to assure label printing and slitting operations, procedures, and specifications are in compliance.

Requirements are representative of minimum levels of knowledge, skills and/or abilities:

Education : High school diploma, technical degree preferred.

Experience: Minimum of 1 year proven mechanical ability required.

Physical Requirements Level 3

Medium Work: Exerting 20 to 50 pounds occasionally or 10 to 25 pounds frequently, or up to 10 pounds constantly. Physical demands requirement is more than those for Light Work.

Mental Requirements : Ability to read, write and understand English..

Working Conditions: The worker is subject to inside environmental conditions. Protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.

Hazards: Includes a variety a physical condition, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals.

Supervision : Reports directly to Department Shift Supervisor.
