Job Summary:

Tests/inspects components and assembled products for acceptability and/or function. Completes QA first piece and final inspections, product draws and any other quality inspections, as needed. Talks to Production personnel to detect and contain issues. The position will also work closely with the QA Shift Leaders in documentation of quality events. Provides quality related support to projects.

Essential Function:

The essential functions of this position include but are not limited to:

  • Conducts sampling, product testing and visual inspection of finished goods, identifying product defects and non-conformances.

  • Must be familiar with and understand Quality inspection procedures and standards. Regularly monitor product for acceptable quality to the latest product specifications/procedures.

  • Completes accurate documentation of all inspection/testing data and maintains an easily retrievable filing system.

  • Must be comfortable in operating a computer and keying inspections into the data management system. General computer knowledge required.

  • Reads and interprets sampling plans to determine sample size and/or accept/reject criteria.

  • Assists with root cause analysis activities.

  • Issues product holds and pallet identification tickets.

  • Conducts device history, procedural and product audits, as directed by Quality Management.

  • Monitors product and/or process trends at discretion of QA Management.

  • Observance of all safety and environmental procedures and Good Manufacturing Practices.

  • Conducts special sampling and product testing, as required.

  • Collects product/process data for FWO’s, special projects, validations, etc., as required.

  • Completes other duties as assigned by QA Management.

  • Shift 12 hour shift / Green Nights

  • Complies with all local BD quality policies/procedures/practices through consistent application of sound Quality Assurance principles.

Supervision:

  • Reports directly to Quality Engineer - Process Leader.

  • Has no supervision over others.

EDUCATION:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Previous QA experience preferred.

Experience:

Mental Requirements:

  • Ability to read, write and understand English.

  • Initiate and ability to work with limited supervision.

Equipment Use:

  • Understanding and experience with the use of personal computers and various applications required. Ability to operate electronic balance and/or other measuring systems and gauges efficiently and accurately. Ability to operate draw stations efficiently and accurately.

Physical Requirements:

  • Level 3

  • Medium Work: Exerting 20 to 50 pounds occasionally or 10 to 25 pounds frequently, or up to 10 pounds constantly. Physical demands requirement are in excess of those for Light Work.

  • Physically able to lift, bend, stoop, climb and reach.

  • Ability to stand most of the shift.

  • A visual acuity analysis must be successfully completed or on file for associates entering this position. A valid driver’s license will also be an acceptable substitute for the visual requirement.

Working Conditions:

  • The worker is subject to inside environmental conditions: Protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.

  • The worker is subject to hazards: Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals and broken glass.
