Job Description

This is a temporary position that will support the Cayey Continuous Improvement Program as a back-fill for the CI Manager and Lean Specialist during the duration of the Orchid Project. The CI Specialist will gain multi-functional exposure to process improvement, manufacturing support, project management, lean manufacturing, quality systems and six sigma. The CI Specialist will be required to lead, support, and/or conduct continuous improvement initiatives, which may include kaizen blitzes, projects and process/equipment optimization initiatives for the Cayey IDS Site.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead lean initiatives related to 5S, Kaizen Blitzes and continuous improvement initiatives in the site

  • Evaluate data and metrics to identify improvement opportunities

  • Generate and distribute monthly CI reports. Provide lean concept's training as part of our CI Academy

  • Lead Gemba Walks in the areas to find opportunities

  • Oversee the Kaizen program to monitor timely closure of Kaizen ideas and monitor metrics. Monitor and track site projects to assure they are completed on time

  • Perform data collection or time studies in the process to measure productivity performance

  • Conduct manufacturing trials, data collection activities, and provide data analysis for assigned manufacturing projects including recommendations for quality improvements, reduce cost, and increase production capability

  • Promote a safe work environment. May provide recommendations on maintaining the safety of the work environment

  • Notify the supervisor of all observed hazardous conditions or unsafe work practices

  • Keeps abreast of the basic requirement for compliance in all plant areas of work and aligns with those requirements

  • Participate as required in training on regulatory issue affecting the facilities areas or any plant area

  • Bring regulatory compliance questions/issue to the attention of management

  • Must have foresight, planning abilities, and time management skills in order to achieve the required objectives

  • Performs other related duties and assignments as required

Knowledge and skills

  • Knowledge in six sigma, lean manufacturing, and project management concepts

  • Knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Project and Visio), knowledge in Minitab software

  • Ability to provide training in Lean and Six Sigma concepts

  • Able to work with minimal direction and in a team.

  • Must be capable of working a flexible work schedule to allow for data collection activities that may occur outside of standard working due to manufacturing process variability

  • Ability to perform project status presentations

  • Ability to communicate in English/Spanish (Reading, written and Spoken)

Education and experience

  • Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering is preferred (equivalent degrees may also be considered if previous manufacturing experience is particularly strong)

  • Two (2) years minimum experience in a Medical Devices/Pharmaceutical Industry in similar responsibilities, or related area

  • An ability to adapt quickly to new environments

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction as to duration

  • Demonstrated ability to follow established policies and procedures

  • Effective skills on interpersonal relationships, written and oral communication, planning/organization, time management and proactive participation

  • Proficiency in the use of personal computer, scanner and office related equipment
