Job Description SummaryThis position will lead and direct the Environmental Program for a medical device manufacturing facility in Columbus, NE. The person is responsible for ensuring compliance with all local, state, federal and BD safety and environmental regulations, policies and procedures. The person maintains compliance with all BD quality systems, policies, procedures and practices. Regular, punctual attendance is an essential job function, as well as, the ability to speak, read and write English.

Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for leading compliance efforts for Environmental and some interrelated industrial hygiene and safety programs, particularly as hazardous materials are involved.

  • Provide oversight and direction for day-to-day compliance with applicable air, hazardous waste, wastewater and storm water permits, plans, regulations, etc.

  • Ability to interpret environmental laws, procedures, and permit requirements. Must stay abreast of the changing regulatory landscape and analyze the various options for complying with new regulations and permit requirements.

  • Provide training for associates to ensure compliance with environmental regulations, permits and policy requirements.

  • Ensure all work performed is in compliance with all environmental and hazardous waste procedures, plans, policies and requirements

  • Lead and direct activities to sustain ISO 14001-Environmental Management System certification.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Deliverables

  • Implement processes to comply with the obligations of the applicable regulations, permits, plans, to ensure that the processes are operational and effective.

  • Coordinate data acquisition, recordkeeping, and reporting activities to maintain facility’s permits and other environmental regulatory reporting requirements and Corporate sustainability data tracking requirements.

  • Coordinate, update, maintain and implement site HazMat / RCRA Contingency Plan and provide support with maintaining the site’s Business Continuity Plan.

  • Provide oversite and guidance for permitting and implementation of environmental regulations on various new or developing projects.

  • Lead and coordinate the facility’s ISO 14001 Environmental Management System activities to sustain certification.

  • Develop, coordinate, and deliver environmental training programs as required to ensure compliance with regulations, plans and permits.

  • Interface with Environmental Regulatory Agencies, Corporate environmental health and safety leadership & lead inspections and audits.

  • Lead and coordinate efforts on hazardous waste, wastewater, storm water, SPCCP, EPCRA, air, Safety Data Sheets (SDS),

  • Other duties as assigned to include industrial hygiene, OSHA Hazard Communication Standard, working in coordination with Continuous Improvements sustainability efforts.

Qualifications and Requirements

Education: BS degree in Environmental, Chemical or Biosystems Engineering, Occupational Health and Safety, or a related field.

Experience: A minimum of 2 years of Environmental Engineering related experience in a manufacturing operation. Five to 10 years preferred.

  • Experience in managing/handling environmental compliance including reporting and record keeping, environmental permitting for all media, manufacturing operations, regulatory reviews.

  • Experience in evaluating/interpreting OSHA, EPA and DOT regulations.

  • Proficient user in Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM), and/or Certified Hazard Control Manager (CHCM), Environmental PE, Certified Safety Professional (ASP/CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or other equivalent certifications preferred.

  • Strong communication, leadership, training, analytical and organizational skills.

  • Experience in medical device or pharmaceutical manufacturing is preferred.

  • Knowledge and experience in ISO14001 compliance preferred.
