Job Description Summary

The metrology technician supports manufacturing, engineering, and quality departments by performing various inspection activities such as first article testing, incoming material testing, validations and other testing as needed. This position will use automated inspection routines on specialized metrology equipment such as CT Scanner, Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM), Vision & multi-sensor machines, and measuring microscopes. The technician will assist with calibration and maintenance of various measuring devices and may also develop the ability to understand and program visual and touch probe measuring equipment. Ability to read and understand blueprints, use and maintain metrology fixtures, good knowledge of GD & T, ability to work with computers and a good attitude toward teaching people to understand measurement techniques. This person must conduct themselves with integrity when discussing inspection data or methods with other functions such as Metrology Engineers, Quality Engineers, Process & Project Engineers, Tool Room personnel, Mold Techs, Production Leaders and/or the customer.
Ensures compliance with BD quality systems, policies, procedures and best practices, and all local, state, federal and BD safety regulations, policies and procedures. Willing and able to uphold BD Values.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Perform dimensional inspections using various measurement systems, for example: CT Scanner, SmartScopes, CMM’s (coordinate measuring machines), and measuring microscopes.
Train and assist other associates in performing inspections as needed.
Assist metrology engineer with developing, detailing and implementing inspection procedures.
Perform MSA’s (measurement system analysis) and gage R&R’s as the need arises.
Assist with validations, engineering studies, and experimental work orders as applicable.
Coordinate and/or perform routine preventive maintenance and calibration activities for lab equipment.
Assist with development and application of additional related metrology resources & capabilities as needed.
Work on project tasks as assigned.
Comply with all local BD quality policies, procedures and practices through consistent application of sound quality assurance principles.
High School degree or GED is required
Must be able to read, write and converse in English
2 years of proven experience or a combination of equivalent education and experience.
Associates degree preferred.
Related metrology experience preferred as well as CMM programming preferred.
