Job Description

BD, also known as Becton Dickinson, provides pen needles for the care of Diabetes patients globally. The plant, based in Dun Laoghaire, runs 24/7 and is the Worldwide Centre of Excellence for Pen Needle Manufacturing within the BD organisation, producing 4.6 billion medical devices annually. Here we employ approximately 450 people across Operations, Engineering, Quality and R&D.

We are looking for a highly talented Engineering Technician (permanent role) to join our team in Dun Laoghaire in a day role.

The Engineering Technician is responsible for the development of new and improved production equipment used throughout BD, along with the upgrades/retrofits of existing equipment and processes. The development/retrofitting of such equipment requires the following:

  • Provide technical support to the site development function with introduction of new equipment, materials, products and processes;

  • To liaise with vendors, suppliers and local engineering shops;

  • Develop an in-depth knowledge of all current plant performance and production equipment, as well as the fabrication of new and replacement equipment.The Engineering Technician will also be involved in trouble shooting and continuous improvement initiatives;

  • Creating and developing a knowledge directory that will contain all standard operating procedures, set up guides, models, BOM, electrical & mechanical drawings, station specific process flow and development of spare parts list;

  • Provide Inputs into equipment design reviews, ensuring equipment is optimized for safety, quality, automation, capacity and waste perspectives;

  • Develop a good knowledge of all control systems currently in use including PLC’s, motion systems, vision systems, electrical & safety systems and networks;

  • To assist in the complete validation of new and existing equipment including acceptance trials, debugging, process development, and final validation;

  • Support of above activity through occasional travel assignments.

The successful candidate should have minimum of 5 years experience working in high volume manufacturing environment and hold a Third Level Qualification or trades certificate/time served with appropriate experience. A strong working knowledge of the mechanical systems associated with high volume manufacturing equipment . You will have the ability to apply a scientific approach to problem solving, blending analytical and experimental skills to maximise productivity and yields.

Relevant industrial experience working in a high-volume manufacturing environment is essential for this role.
