BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company) Global Business Leader – WHC in Durham, North Carolina

Job Description SummaryThe Global Business Leader for Women’s Health & Cancer at BD Diagnostics Systems will lead, coach, and engage a global, cross functional team to deliver customer focused, clinical solutions for customers around the world which will generate profitable growth for the WHC platform. He/she is accountable for setting the strategic direction for a key platform and executing the strategy globally across functions and regional business teams which also includes engaging in research and/or clinical partnerships to provide innovative yet clear answers for market needs. He/she is accountable for the global financial performance of the solutions tied to strategic plan commitments.

This role will have direct reporting responsibility for leaders who manage the WHC product portfolio and innovation teams aligned to the specific platform. This leader will also lead the resources from major functions aligned to the WHC platform (even though direct reporting remains with the functions) as well as roles in regional business groups. This role will initially have P&L responsibility for a $125 million+ platform. It is anticipated that this role will have a cross functional leadership team (direct and matrix) to lead and manage of approximately 7-10 and then large group of extended platform members which will vary based on the platform needs.

Job Description

  • Leads change and drives profitable growth for the Platform through focus on customer solutions (versus “boxes”) and embeds a strong customer centric focus into portfolio and resource decisions.

  • Ensures alignment of Global Business Platform strategic objectives with the overall MDx & WHC BU’s strategic imperatives.

  • Works closely with other Global Platform Leaders and functional leaders to ensure optimized use of shared resources.

  • Leads identification and selection of the most promising business opportunities for the platform.

  • Creates/sets the short-term and long term direction and strategies for the business platform, including strategic planning for projected financial outcomes, working with the BDDS business regions and functional teams.

  • Establishes the ASR (strategic planning) and budgets, determining forecasts and delivering on the financial performance of the business platform jointly with regional business leaders and the worldwide LT.

  • Monitors and ensures proper communication of relevant market trends, clinical practices, regulations and policy to ensure continuing strategic fit.

  • Develops and manages the Platform team’s worldwide manufacturing/supply chain needs jointly with Operations and in setting short-term and long term manufacturing strategy and capacity planning.

  • Effectively partners and collaborates with regional business leaders, R&D, Medical Affairs, Scientific Affairs, Business Development, and other functions to ensure development and execution of a solutions strategy

  • Leads and supports resource decisions for associate career development recognizing that leadership happens at all levels and in line with critical capabilities for BD and BDDS.

  • Jointly with functional leaders, she/he is responsible for Core Team Leaders’ performance.

  • Defines and drives execution of platform portfolio strategy, product roadmap and priorities for specified market segment in partnership with Marketing and other key functions.

  • Maintains strong relationships with key opinion leaders, customers, professional associations, and advisory boards in partnership with Scientific Affairs.

  • Adheres to all company policies, procedures and business ethics codes and ensures that they are communicated and implemented within the team. Education and Experience

  • Seven to ten years of related functional experience and business leadership in medical device and/or life sciences industry with a consistent track-record in leading & developing high performance, cross functional teams in a matrix business environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to conceive, develop and implement commercial strategies, convert these into tactical marketing plans and deliver results.

  • Strong leadership skills with an ability to set a vision, lead change and to mentor others. Speaks up when important information or questions must be raised and takes action when issues must be addressed.

  • Ability to develop strong relationships with key opinion leaders, customers, and potential or existing business partners.

  • Strong leadership presence with ability to utilize organizational channels, experience and influencing skills to persuade others of the course of action, facilitate successful project implementation and effective implementation.

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills for a wide variety of audiences, including senior management.

  • Ability to work across all global regions at both an executive and tactical sales/marketing level.

  • Global experience is highly preferred and experience in emerging and developing markets is a plus.

  • Flexibility to travel globally up to 30% of the time.
