In recent years, Medication Management Solutions (MMS) has built on BD's robust history through significant expansion into the high-growth pharmacy automation space and is now one of the global leaders in pharmacy automation. The Pharmacy Automation platform positions BD to offer our pharmacy customers a more comprehensive set of thoughtful, connected care technologies as they expand care to new settings, centralize their pharmacy operations and own the charge in addressing some of the biggest challenges facing the industry, including health care worker burnout and the global clinician shortage. BD’s Pharmacy Automation portfolio covers a wide range of hardware and software technologies from storage and dispensing robots, vision solutions, pouch packagers, vial filling systems, blister card production systems as well as central fill solutions and enterprise pharmacy management software solutions.

BD is searching for a Senior Staff Systems Engineer to join this rapidly expanding team to lead robust systems engineering process integration into an in-flight portfolio of robotic & enterprise software solutions. System Engineers are characterized by their disciplined, quantitative approach to system and technology integration as well as diverse cross-functional backgrounds and general knowledge of related disciplines. These individuals deploy tools and processes such as Design for Six Sigma and product development processes (waterfall, Agile) within a quality management system to enable more predictable product development and high quality/value products. System Engineers are responsible for technology integration in projects and systems that have both enterprise software and electromechanical (hardware / embedded software) components. The Senior Staff Systems Engineer is a technical leader in their field ensuring adequate system level performance for robotic systems through close collaboration with hardware design, software, and other functional groups. In addition to technical expertise, the Sr. Staff System engineer possesses strong leadership and team building skills.

The Sr. Staff Systems Engineer translates voice of customer and stakeholder needs into system and product requirements, collaboratively creates system architecture diagrams, identifies potential hazards, and performs/leads hands-on system-level testing to ensure requirements to ensure that the product meets the user/business needs, including verification, validation, and beta launch of products to early-adopter customer sites. The expectation for a Senior Staff Systems Engineer is that they can lead these activities on complex, system-of-systems product portfolios. This individual will serve on cross-functional teams, educate team members in technical excellence, and participate as an agent for continuous improvement within the Systems Engineering function.

Responsibilities

  • The associate autonomously leads the planning and execution of technical project work across a portfolio of new product development and sustaining products, including: system/product-level feasibility, requirement derivation, system integration & test, and risk management. He/She should have a detailed understanding of system modules and subsystems and how they impact the solution/system as a whole.

  • Contributes to the transition from R&D to manufacturing/service and supports system troubleshooting activities for products in the field. Supports product launch and on-market products by: traveling to customer sites to support implementation for early adopters, serving as a resource to examine and bring to resolution system behavior issues, identifying opportunities to drive continuous improvement, and supporting design changes within a design control system.

  • Drives robust systems engineering practices into projects in collaboration with the following departments: interdepartmental (hardware, software, quality, and test engineers), cross-functional (with Marketing, Medical Affairs, Regulatory, Service, Operations, Project Management, and Quality)

  • The Senior Staff Systems Engineer models and coaches best practices in technical documentation across a multidisciplinary team and educates others in implementation of DFSS best practices to project work.

  • The associate can communicate effectively at all levels of the organization, effectively bridges functional and organizational gaps, and manages effective escalation of critical issues when needed.

  • The associate is responsible for the delivery of business unit goals that contribute to the objectives of BD annual strategic review. Failure to obtain results or erroneous decisions on behalf of this associate would result in serious program delays.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Must have a bachelor’s degree in science or engineering. A post graduate degree is preferred.

  • B.S.: 10+ years of experience in technical area

  • M.S.: 5+ years of experience in technical area

  • Ph.D.: 3+ years of experience in technical area

  • Experience with Systems Engineering and requirements management, including:

  • Demonstrated capability with requirement/specification management

  • Systems integration and testing, system architectural planning and design, Reliability Engineering, and Failure Modes Effects Analysis, verification and validation.

  • Strong experimental design, data acquisition, graphical analysis and use of statistical methods for large complex data sets. Experience implementing and educating others in Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) methodologies.

  • Limited commercial release / beta-testing, and/or field implementation of new product launches.

  • Ability to work independently and as a member or leader of a multi-disciplinary team. Experience in directing associates and leading cross-functional groups.

  • Ability to communicate technical and program progress/metrics effectively and clearly at all levels of the organization.

  • Proficient in product development lifecycle (both waterfall & agile product development processes) and design control.

  • DFSS expert certification is a plus.

  • Understanding of, or experience working in, outpatient, retail, and/or central pharmacy would be a differentiator.

  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and a past clean driving record for a minimum of 3 years; as well as meet BD's auto safety standards
