The Associate Director, Communications – Quality, is responsible for developing and implementing communications and change management strategies that help drive Quality business priorities and transformation initiatives by educating, engaging and empowering leaders and associates to deliver the right business results and customer outcomes, connected to BD’s purpose, strategy and culture. In addition, this role will be accountable for developing strategic communication plans and materials in support of customer and external stakeholder outreach focused on advancing BD's commitment to product quality and patient safety.

This individual will participate on and collaborate across the Quality Leadership Team to recommend and align on key objectives, priorities and messaging, and drive an associate engagement approach that delivers and demonstrates visible and measurable impact and outcomes for the organization. Additionally, the individual will serve as a trusted partner and advisor to the EVP, Chief Quality Officer and Quality Leadership Team, and will play a critical role in helping navigate the Quality organization through business and cultural transformation.

This role will also contribute to external communications efforts to advance BD’s reputation as a leader in delivering high quality products, as well as support issues management in the Quality space, in alignment with the BD Corporate Communication team and business/functional leadership.

This individual will work closely with colleagues across the Quality organization and its leadership, as well as the global communications team. In addition, he or she will collaborate across the Integrated Supply Chain organization to advance a culture of quality and help activate and equip a leadership network that drives change. This role solid line reports to the Director, Corporate Communications, while operationally being aligned to the Quality Leadership Team.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop, manage, execute and champion internal communication and change management strategies and tactics that help drive Quality business priorities and transformation initiatives by educating, engaging and empowering leaders and associates to deliver the right business results and customer outcomes.

  • Support issues management response in partnership with Corporate Communication team and business/functional leaders (i.e. product recalls).

  • Act as a consultant and strategic thought partner to the EVP, Chief Quality Officer and Quality Leadership Team to proactively shape a cohesive narrative and an associate engagement approach in alignment with BD’s purpose, strategy and culture.

  • Partner with the Corporate Public Relations Department to develop, manage and successfully implement external communications plans that support thought leadership in the Quality space, surfacing stories of innovation and impact and drafting content to advance the BD narrative.

  • Bring innovative approaches and advise on tools and tactics that cut through the noise to reach and engage associates and key internal/external stakeholders.

  • Collaborate across the BD organization to communicate key initiatives while also supporting inclusion and diversity efforts.

  • Establish mechanisms for monitoring and measuring the value, impact and outcome of communication, engagement and change management initiatives.

  • Manage sensitive organizational and transformation initiatives in collaboration with the Quality Leadership Team and Corporate Communications.

  • Advance communication strategies and drive change across a matrixed organization by distilling complex initiatives into a coordinated approach for multiple stakeholder needs and delivering messages via the right mix of media and channels.

  • Cascade and tailor corporate level communications appropriately throughout the Quality organization, and serve as liaison with the Corporate Communications team to ensure alignment, sharing of best practices and appropriate inclusion of business content within company-wide and segment communications.

  • Work at both the strategic and tactical levels to develop and advance communication materials and content; deliver across internal/external platforms, channels and geographies.

  • Research, write, edit and publish content for communication vehicles including: intranet, town halls, video scripts, emails, presentations, social media and others.

Qualifications

Must Haves:

  • At least8 yearsrelated professional experience.

  • Corporate communciations, strategic communications, and corporate matrix environment experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communication, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, Business or equivalent.

  • Highly polished writing and editing skills, strong presentation and verbal communication skills - generated through critical attention to detail.

  • Must submit at least three writing samples with resume.

Preferred:

  • Medical device or healthcare industry experience preferred.

Knowledge, skills and abilities

  • Solid organizational, communication and interpersonal skills; experience interacting with senior leaders a plus.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in communication planning and implementation including video, social media, high-impact emails, print collateral, face-to-face and virtual meetings, and mobile technology.

  • Experience developing and executing creative internal communication strategies and plans for a dynamic and diverse organization.

  • Comfort owning relationships with leaders and colleagues across the organization and driving execution from them.

  • Self-starter able to work independently to prioritize and manage multiple projects and deadlines in a dynamic environment with frequently changing priorities.

  • Excellent project and change management skills and follow-up.

  • Able to influence “up and down” to achieve project objectives (i.e. soliciting and reconciling feedback from multiple sources).

  • Creative team player who can work calmly and quickly in fast-paced environments. Self-starter able to work independently to prioritize and manage multiple projects and deadlines, with the flexibility and willingness to roll up their sleeves to get the job done.
