Provides the strategy and operational leadership associated with North America Transportation operational execution.

Develops and evolves the North America Transportation strategy for inbound and outbound operating execution meeting the needs of internal and external customers while leading a team of supply chain professionals responsible for daily execution. Identifies, quantifies, recommends, and prioritizes operating initiatives which drive value within the integrated supply chain. This includes initiatives which improve the customer experience while also delivering 5% year on year cost savings initiatives against freight budgets of over $120M while also contributing towards the effective management of over $300M in total NA Transportation spend. Active in managing third party carrier base relationships to ensure the North America region’s transportation needs are met in a service focused and cost-effective manner. Strong use of key performance indicators and metrics to monitor and drive performance. Utilizes formal Transportation Management System(s) to manage the function.

Partnering with the Director of North America Transportation develops and evolves the NA Transportation Strategy for operating execution for the North America region encompassing over $300M in total N.A. Transportation spend. This strategy includes legacy BD, Carefusion, and CR Bard sites and processes into a common NA Transportation regional approach. Aligns and enables resources, processes and systems to achieve desired functional or business objectives.

Responsibilities:

  • Main functional contact for the development and ongoing management of the NA Transportation third party carrier base supporting all product movement between BD sites and to BD customers.

  • Identifies, quantifies, recommends, and prioritizes operating initiatives which drive value within the integrated supply chain. Examples can include but not limited to: carrier changes, sourcing changes, direct plant shipments, service offerings, new product and acquisition/divestiture modeling etc.

  • Partners with BD Manufacturing, BD Distribution, and third party sources of supply in ensuring product flow throughout the North American network

  • Partners with BD Procurement in Carrier selection and carrier management.

  • Represents North America Transportation with respect to ensuring Quality and Regulatory requirements are met for the function.

  • Key point of entry as it pertains to addressing performance issues with transportation services with our external and internal customers.

  • Accountable for the development and ongoing management of third party carrier relationships ensuring service performance expectations are being met to meet our customers’ needs at a reasonable cost.

  • Accountable for the financial performance of the North American transportation budgets and overall North America region transportation spend.

  • Main functional owner ensuring Transportation operating “Flow Metrics” are met including On Time Appointment Scheduling, Order Aging, and Carrier Misses which align to meeting our customer expectations.

  • Responsible for addressing underperforming carrier performance including corrective actions up to and including carrier removal and replacement.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BS Degree in Business with a preferred discipline in Supply Chain, Industrial Management, Engineering, or Business (or equivalent).

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in related position with proven record of increasing responsibility.

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a supervisory role, preferably overseeing supply chain professionals.

  • Working knowledge and experience in strategy development and third party management though defined KPI’s and metrics.

  • Must possess a strong interpersonal and relationship development skills.

  • Must have a strong analytical mindset and capability, facilitation and change management.

  • Must have excellent planning, organization, analysis and problem solving skills.
