The Associate Director, U.S. Market Access (AD MA) is a very important customer-facing role that will work closely with the global Market Access leaders for each priority segment to co-develop the market access field strategy and tactical plan. The AD MA is required to establish new or revise existing coverage policies leading to enhanced market access for priority products within BD’s portfolio. The AD MA is the key contact responsible for local market access and reimbursement related matters in the Eastern region and will have responsibility for leading the engagement and building relationships with identified national/regional payers (both public and private). In addition, this role will closely interface with the sales organization around key opinion leader development and key customer engagement on reimbursement issues to remove any barriers to sales pull through. This position will be field based (flexible location - Eastern U.S.) and will have responsibility for national and eastern market access initiatives.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The AD MA will be responsible for monitoring and evaluating the access and coverage landscape for priority products and communicate and explain to internal stakeholders payer policy updates or system changes that impact product market access (e.g., prior authorizations, step edits, etc.) in assigned accounts. This role will be available to support all three BD business segments, and the position’s initial focus will largely be within the Interventional and Integrated Diagnostic Solutions businesses.

  • Partner with business segment Market Access and Marketing leaders within our Interventional (BDI) and Integrated Diagnostic Solutions (IDS) businesses to build strategic market access and reimbursement strategy and tools based on segment/franchise business objectives that will result in expanding favorable reimbursement positions for BD products. Focus on gaining coverage/adoption of key technologies with national and regional commercial health plans, Medicare Administrative Contractors (MACs) and State Medicaid Agencies

  • Portfolio accountability and account leadership for assigned payer customers in their local market of various customer types which will include health plans and MACs. Responsible for managing payer accounts (public and private). Developing strong customer relationships is essential

  • Work cross functionally with key account teams and regional sales leadership in assigned areas to build alliances with key thought leaders for targeted payer engagements, address any practice or facility specific reimbursement challenges and identify areas of partnership supporting current and future BD products

  • Develop working relationships with state societies, associations, and industry groups, as needed, to support patient access and raise overall awareness of BD's products

  • Ensure appropriate, compliant execution of the Market Access strategy covering launch/formulary placement and on-going access pull-through/formulary by communicating the product's payer value story

  • Support field team (Clinical Affairs and Sales) in identifying clinician advocates (KOLs) to support and further initiatives impacting payers, associations and government policy

  • Exercise sound judgment and oversight to ensure integrity and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations as well as corporate policies in all activities and communication

EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION:

  • BA/BS degree required, MBA, Advanced degree or other equivalent experience preferred

  • Min 3 years of relevant industry experience: preferred experience with medical device/diagnostics/biotech, with a proven track record of contributing to growth through shaping favorable payment pathways and securing reimbursement status for health care products

  • Possess a strong understanding of both U.S. public and private payers and how coverage, coding, payment and reimbursement are determined in each segment.

  • Thorough understanding of market access pathways in the US, including but not limited to: pharmacy and medical benefits as well as clinical laboratory diagnostics.

  • Prior customer facing account management experience, both payer as well as key ecosystem accounts such as Integrated Delivery Networks, is necessary with demonstrated ability to develop strong relationships with key decision makers in target accounts

  • Existing relationships with key payer decision makers within region is preferred

  • Deep understanding of government and third party payer reimbursement mechanisms for various market channels including but not limited to the Physician Office (including laboratories), Hospital Systems, Urgent Care Systems and Accountable Care Organizations.

  • Understanding of the local changing landscape including consolidation and integration of payer customers with focus on different operating models, quality, outcomes and risk-bearing partnerships and ability to leverage this knowledge to exceed business objectives.

  • Comprehensive understanding of legal and regulatory issues impacting the medical device and diagnostic industry around pricing, reimbursement, and communications to formulary decision makers

  • Must be able to work independently with minimal oversight and direction, to anticipate needs from leadership and other stakeholders, and to balance multiple and often diverse priorities to align on a strategic and appropriate plan

  • Ability to communicate effectively and lead without authority

  • Analytical, problem solving and persuasive abilities to develop and implement regional strategic plans

  • Excellent oral and written communication capabilities that have been leveraged with external customers, internal stakeholders and senior leadership

  • Excels in a fast-paced, results-driven, highly accountable environment where you can make a clear impact

Work/Travel

  • Position will require frequent travel within Eastern USA and individual will need to reside near a major airport

  • Preference for an Eastern USA location due to business units and team

  • 100% remote with travel 30%+ of the time
