Associate Director, Winning Portfolio and Commercial Excellence

Purpose:

BD has been strategically focused on narrowing the product portfolio we offer to the critical options that customers want the most and that will drive the most growth for BD. Together, this effort is called the Winning Portfolio (WP). However, we still have a great deal of work to do to maximize these efforts and are seeking a strong marketer to lead the transformational change from massive SKU rationalization to ensuring we offer the right products to the right customers, in the right quantities and at the right price. In other words we want to leverage the marketing 4Ps to move the organization to disproportionately investing in the winning portfolio.

Therefore, the corporate marketing team is seeking a talented associate with a broad marketing background to join our team. This leader will need to understand the fundamentals of the marketing 4Ps in the context of upstream marketing, downstream marketing and market development/shaping. They will partner with the Sr Director of Commercial Excellence to drive the different disciplines and processes within the marketing function across the BUs and regions, driving this transformational effort.

The Assoc Director of Winning Portfolio and Commercial Excellence will have four primary objectives:

In partnership with the Sr Director they will:

  • Work cross-functionally and with the BUs to drive LCM in product development, ASR planning and business development to ensure we are disproportionately focused on the portfolio that will drive the most growth for BD while creating value for our customers.

  • Work with the brand team to develop a sub-brand strategy that supports the strongest revenue drivers within the WP. And then coaching BUs on putting the right promotional investment behind those brands to generate customer loyalty.

  • Work with the global pricing leader to ensure that pricing setting is driven early in the GPDS process and followed through at launch for these winning products. They will also support the efforts to execute and track price once the strategy is executed- supporting pricing excellence within BD.

  • Build the case to establish a marketing operations function within the BUs and regions that drives forecasting discipline, LCM data and analytics to support the strategic decisions of the business, LCM execution and backorder and supply chain management issues for marketing. This function will allow a separation between demand generators within marketing and the operational discipline that can distract the demand generators.

  • Partner with their Sr. Director leader to ensure the rigor and processes that support the WP translate into the workstreams for retaining, advancing and growing our BD marketing talent. This leader will be integral in identifying new competencies and capabilities needed to continuously evolve our marketing talent.

Responsibilities

This position is responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

  • Drive LCM across the different processes, frameworks and functions that can enable ongoing and efficient management of the portfolio.

  • Partner with the senior leader to ensure BDWoM reflects WP throughout.

  • Partner with the brand team to define, manage and guide on strong BD sub-brands including solutions.

  • Work with the BUs, regions and omnichannel marketing leaders on resource planning to optimize the winning portfolio promotionally as well as the internal resources to support those efforts (ie: do we have the right org structures and functions to be successful?)

  • Own the LCM/Recode management tool to ensure simplicity and utilization across stakeholders.

  • Partner with the strategic pricing leader to ensure price is a lever for the winning portfolio- both setting and execution.

  • Build the case to establish a marketing operations function focused on the operational aspects of marketing like executing the LCM plan, forecasting accuracy for business and supply chain needs and managing backorders when they occur.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree mandatory, MBA preferred, with at least 8-10 years of marketing experience

  • Demonstrated capability in marketing including, but not limited to, upstream, downstream, solutions development, marketing operations, branding building and communications

  • Experience in customer facing roles, preferably direct sales

Leadership Experiences

  • Experience leading teams, directly and indirectly, to achieve goals. Strong coaching and influence without authority skills.

  • Demonstrated track record of optimizing workforce plans, including the utilization of offshore resources.

  • Strong history of success in influencing and building cohesive relationships among corporate, regional, and business unit leaders.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional initiatives

  • Exceptional leadership effectiveness and communications skills

  • Demonstrated track record of driving for results, demonstrating a strong sense of urgency and commitment to achieving goals.

  • Strong strategic thinking skills with a keen focus on change management.

  • Courageous leadership in leading without authority to achieve organizational success
