Job Description SummaryThe Creative Director (CD) provides creative leadership, including copy and design direction, to the corporate, global in-house agency. This position is responsible for connecting the creative approach to the business strategy working with senior-creative leadership in a highly collaborative and team-oriented environment with the aim of expanding existing business, winning new business, and managing the strategic marketing development of the BD brand. Working with creative teams, the CD guides the concept creation and sets the creative direction. The CD will lead a team of Art Directors, supporting the Account Services and Operations teams in managing senior client relationships, creating workflow efficiencies, and providing full-service support to clients. This person must exhibit outstanding creative judgment and guide the Creative Services team in achieving the highest possible standards appropriate for all materials regardless of medium. This positon will act as an outward-facing thought leader to support new business development by obtaining a working knowledge of clients’ business challenges, and leads innovative and conceptual solutions to address those challenges, getting personally involved on high profile and complex creative challenges. Based at the Global Headquarters in Franklin Lakes, this position will travel up to 50% to relevant teams globally to facilitate relationships, open dialogue and have a solid, consistent understanding of company creative strategy.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

Team Leadership

Creative Direction, Leadership and Execution

  • Develops the overall creative strategy for BD and works with the businesses to build out their strategic branding and marketing roadmap on a global level for both internal and external deliverables

  • Provides sound, responsible and cutting-edge marketing counseling and planning

  • Acts as an innovator, catalyst and influencer

  • Provides creative direction and coaching while partnering with staff to accomplish creative objectives

  • Provides creative quality control over concepts and execution

  • Directs complex, large-scale project activities and effectively leads and manages work of the creative studio team

  • Leads execution of Tier A creative work on select projects, including development of sketches/prototypes and imagery selection or headlines and copy

  • Provides brand guidance and direction to ensure consistent alignment with brand standards

  • Motivates the team to deliver a consistently high level of quality as evaluated by clients

  • Understands data used to track market trends and customer actions and uses it to inform the creative work

Staff Development

  • Works to improve the team’s performance by pursuing opportunities for continuous learning/feedback

  • Constructively helps and coaches team in their professional development through informal and formal feedback sessions (i.e., performance reviews) as appropriate and proactively addresses staff performance issues

  • Implements and refines conceptual development/ideation process and defines and coaches team on presentation expectations

  • Articulates the creative rationale that drives the concept’s execution and tactics

  • Directs team as brand advocates, but also encourages and develops new interpretations of the brand standards and out-of-the-box approaches in collaboration with the Brand office to grow the verbal and visual identity of the brand to meet ever-expanding company needs

Education/Experience and Background :

  • Bachelor’s degree required; MFA preferred; preferably in design, advertising, English, journalism or related field

  • Minimum of ten years professional experience required; five as an art director or copywriter

  • Experience managing and leading teams in a fast paces and cross-functional focused environment

  • Three years management experience required

  • Portfolio required

  • In-house agency experience required

  • External agency experience desired

  • Demonstrated creative conceptualization skills

  • Pharma or regulated environment experience preferred
