Job Description Summary

The Data Scientist, Supply Chain provides analytics expertise to ensure ‘Sales through fulfillment’ process can operate smoothly, drive process improvement across the supply chain and provide customer demand insights to BD’s various Business Unit Demand Planning Teams.

Reporting to the Sr. Manager, NA Demand Management & Analytics within Supply Chain Relations Management; the incumbent will provide critical data support and create key analytical tools to aid business growth, the decision-making process and delivery of key customer insights around demand. In addition, this individual will play an active role in various cross functional integration initiatives and projects. This role will design and manage data exchange with Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning technologies This position is also responsible for demand forecasting focusing on a long-term horizon utilizing customer demand trends, consumption data, and commercial input and insight from Sales & Marketing teams, maintaining a high level of forecast accuracy, and integrated inventory management. The successful candidate will: focus on improving our demand forecast accuracy and our supply planning capabilities to reduce variability, assist the BU to enhance our production planning and scheduling, while optimizing inventory, minimizing downtime and waste.

Responsibilities

Get Distributor and IDN demand planning/forecast data and provide to Demand Planning and Business Units for use in broader SIOP and demand review processes

  • Determine best analytical method and model to achieve desired results

  • Support the design, build, govern and continuously improve the analytical aspects of the demand and forecast data from Distributor and IDN customers

  • Partner with the customers’ analytics experts to help them improve the benefits of demand planning/forecasting to meet their customers’ needs, fully comprehend the basis for their demand planning/forecast and address any questions regarding their plan/forecast.

  • Provide Distributor and IDN customer demand/forecast information to Demand Planning and Business Units in a manner that is understandable, useful, and compatible with their SIOP and demand review timing and processes

  • Develop and drive end to end visibility of Top customer Order Trends, Daily Inventory Positions and Forecast on future demand. (30 – 90 days). Develop performance metrics to track the accuracy of customers forecast and enrich the data by providing key drivers, market demand variances, channel shift, new business opportunities and end user demand service level improvements

  • Represents NASC in partnering with Demand Panning and Business Units to continuously improve broader SIOP and demand review processes

Monitor and address actual demand v. forecasted demand

  • Design and implement an audit program that will measure adherence to the Distributor and IDN Customer demand planning/forecast process standards and continued efficacy.

  • Monitor Distributor and IDN customer actual demand relative to forecasted and provide early detection of meaningful deviations

  • Investigate the cause of the deviations with customers and share the information with the Demand Planning and Business Unit Organizations

  • Partner with Demand Planning and Business Unit Organizations to determine if corrective action are required to address forecast deviations and the creating and execution of an effective plan.

  • Lead discussions with Supply Chain Account Executives, Supply Chain Managers, Channel Management VP’s, Strategic Customer Group VP’s to harvest meaning customer insights to align with data trends.

  • Serve as a conduit between Customer Demand Visibility team, Demand Planners and Business Unit Marketing analysts. Provide updates, including Demand Planning and Business Unit perspectives to the Sr. Manager, NA Demand Management & Analytics.

Requirements

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, Operations Management, Industrial Engineering, IT, or related discipline. Master’s degree desirable

Experience:

  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience within Supply Chain End to End processes, preferably in a customer driven Demand Planning, SIOP, and/or business process excellence role

  • Minimum of 2 years’ working with large amounts of data leveraging AI/ML technology

  • Proven experience working across business units and functions on projects using a variety of process redesign methods (such as business process re-engineering, value chain analysis, lean Six Sigma, or total quality management)

Competencies

  • Interpersonal and organizational savvy to develop relationships that will enable, influence, collaborate and partner with team members from a variety of organizations across the company and at all levels within the organization.

  • Strong Customer Facing focus and the ability to build strong relationship with Customers’ Senior Supply Chain teams.

  • Well versed in BD product knowledge across BU’s, impact of Supply Disruption, Lead time variances and product alternatives.

  • Deep knowledge in planning processes: demand planning, supply planning, new products introduction, material planning and S&OP process.

  • Process efficiency and systems expertise to design and build effective processes and tools to enable demand forecasting and monitoring. Proficient in: SAP, Power BI, Database Management, Valuecentric, Python, Access, and Excel.

  • Track record of critical contributions to project teams

  • Good business understanding with consulting or business strategy background, mathematical modeling, or advanced analytics. At ease handling large amount of qualitative and quantitative inputs.

CERTIFICATIONS:

APICS, CPIM desired
