Becton, Dickinson, and Company (BD) recently announced its intention to spin-off the Diabetes Care business unit into a separate public company. The Diabetes Care business of BD is the industry pioneer and leader in diabetes injection devices. The Diabetes Care business unit has a long history within BD and is unique in that it focuses on one significant disease state which is a threat to world health. BD Diabetes Care has an unequalled reach and connection to diabetic patients and has well-established relationships with key diabetes stakeholders and influencers worldwide. BD Diabetes Care has leveraged deep expertise and advanced technologies to continuously innovate their portfolio specifically tailored to the needs of Type II diabetics. Their products are diligently designed to enable people who are living with diabetes to do so with comfortable, effective care.

It is contemplated that within the coming months, BD will spin off Diabetes Care into a new publicly owned corporation, which will be named embecta (“NewCo”).

As embecta separates from BD, identifying the Information Technology entanglements, interdependencies and ensuring a seamless Day 1 transition will be critical. In parallel, embecta will need develop its own Information Technology organization, strategy and roadmap. The IT Solution Delivery leader will be an integral member of the IT leadership team charged with developing and executing a five-year strategy to enable embecta to separate quickly and grow on its own as an independent public company.

This role will initially report to the TGS Business Partner – Corporate Services, VP; upon the Diabetes Care spin-off, this role will report the embecta VP, IT Solution Delivery.

Responsibilities:

  • Leads strategic planning with Finance, Human Resources, Legal, Ethics & Compliance/Privacy to achieve business objectives by fostering innovation, prioritizing initiatives, and coordinating the evaluation, deployment, and management of systems across the organization to ensure flexible, effective platforms able to adjust to reasonable future demands consistent with the business plans of embecta.

  • Drives the implementation of enterprise systems and applications for Finance, Human Resources, Legal, Ethics & Compliance/Privacy in support of embecta operations to foster innovation that creates competitive advantage, enhances the customer experience, improves service quality, supports business development, improves cost effectiveness, and leads to greater productivity and efficiency.

  • Drives forward-thinking employment of cloud-based platforms and solutions as well as effective use and management of external partnerships for application development and application maintenance/operations.

  • Ensures compliance of controls for the processes and functions performed by IT Delivery team engaged with Corporate Solutions. Supports periodic reviews by internal/external audit, compliance teams and other risk-related functions as required.

  • Business partner to embecta Finance, Human Resources, and Legal organizations; engages with all members various embecta stakeholders to enable the goals and objectives of the organization. Incorporates business, regional, and functional strategies into the goals and objectives of the technologies to be developed and deployed.

  • Maintains knowledge on emerging trends and drives appropriate decisions for various technologies.

  • Builds an efficient, cohesive, high-performing team.

  • Other responsibilities include:

  • Application strategy & architecture

  • Business analysis for solution design

  • Solution design, development, configuration, testing, deployment, enhancement, and support

  • Business process / value optimization

  • Collaborates with Testing & Release Mgmt / Business Continuity & Monitoring Lead for Corporate Solutions in the areas of:

  • Application monitoring

  • Release Management

  • Capacity & release management

  • Business continuity planning

Key Year 1-2 Objectives:

  • Effective separation of embecta from BD, ensuring there are no disruptions following Day 1 during the separation period, which is a maximum of two years from Day 1.

  • Solidify core foundational services across IT delivery (sell, buy, make, ship, collect, close).

  • Build-out internal organization and implement and stabilize key external partnerships.

  • Contribute to design and implementation of the target-state embecta IT operating model, collaborating with other functions to ensure that interdependencies are incorporated.

  • Drive enhanced customer experience through process optimization to achieve operational consistency, agility, and enablement of the front office to deliver market-differentiating service.

  • Create an exceptional and consistent user experience across through implementation of productivity technology, analytics, and service delivery that is appropriate to embecta scale and focused on what matters to users.
