The H&S Manager will be a member of the Corporate EHS compliance auditing team. The Health and Safety (H&S) Manager will develop programs to meet BD internal safety policies and regional, country specific and local regulations. They will provide support and guidance to the BD businesses and sites for H&S performance improvement programs. They will serve as a resource on H&S issues for the Company on cross-functional teams as assigned. The H&S Manager will develop and deliver training programs in support of customer (BD sites) needs and will observe and monitor the external trends which could impact BD manufacturing and business practices. They will provide guidance to both Corporate and Business-level resources on how best to respond to these external developments.

They will provide guidance to both Corporate and Business-level resources on how best to respond to these external developments.

This position reports to the Director, Corporate EHS Audit.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assess the compliance of units, manufacturing sites and distribution centers with BD safety policies, standards and programs, including local requirements, through participation on Corporate EHS compliance audits.

  • Assist BD sites as they implement programs to improve their safety performance.

  • Assist in H&S management systems implementation and best practice performance.

  • Develop and deliver programs and training to support the Corporate audit program and other safety and health needs identified.

  • Assist in data management and analysis associated with the health and safety aspects of BD operations.

  • Maintain technical expertise in health and safety areas. Keep abreast of existing and upcoming regulations and inform management as appropriate.

  • Foster awareness and knowledge of H&S issues among site or business unit level H&S coordinators. Provide coaching and support to coordinators on program issues.

  • Manage data within the BD safety reporting systems and prepare reports for management from this data.

  • Contribute to the development of systems, standards, guidelines and tools. Propose immediate and long-range plans, programs, policies, and procedures appropriate for corporate H&S needs.

  • Manage the content of the Safety and Environmental website, and contribute to its content.

  • Assist in the investigation of any major loss resulting from an employee injury, property or equipment damage.

ACCOUNTABILITY

  • Participates in Corporate EHS auditing program to ensure compliance with H&S laws and regulations.

  • Identifies and addresses health and safety risks at BD locations.

  • Reports to the Director, EHS Audit.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in safety, industrial hygiene, engineering or a related physical or natural science field.

  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience in H&S, preferably in a manufacturing setting. Consulting experience is also acceptable.

  • H&S auditing experience necessary.

  • Professional certification in safety and/or industrial hygiene preferred. (e.g.: Certified Safety Professional or Certified Industrial Hygienist)

  • Excellent written and public speaking skills. Good training skills. Knowledge of standard computer programs and databases. Knowledge of simple website management skills.

  • Position will require travel (25 – 50%) to BD sites globally.
