The US Region medical science liaison (MSL) will serve as the lead in communicating medical and scientific related findings relevant to BD products to external and internal partners. This position will focus on BD IDS molecular, microbiology, point of care, and specimen management platforms, used to diagnose various microbiology associated conditions, healthcare acquired infections, enteric pathogens, and other infectious diseases. The MSL must have a solid understanding of various infectious disease processes. The candidate will report to the US IDS Medical Affairs VP, and associate with other members of the US IDS Medical Affairs team, the US marketing team, and the global Medical Affairs associates and Medical Science Liaison team.

The MSL will be responsible for staying up to date on the most recent evidence related to disease states being tested by BD products, competitive insights, FDA and regulatory body updates, and details related to all BD products. MSL will prepare presentations and communications regarding products and disease states, in compliance with appropriate legal and regulatory policies. MSL will be responsible for training internal associates on product related updates, recent evidence, and disease state information. MSL will also communicate findings at customer engagements and conferences. MSL will work with medical affairs clinical project leads to disseminate findings from post-market studies related to BD IDS products. The MSL is encouraged to lead or collaborate on publishing scientific abstracts for key conferences and manuscripts in peer reviewed journals.

In this role you will be responsible for:

  • Fostering the exchange of clinical information to raise disease state and product awareness among healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and laboratory professionals

  • MSL will cover molecular diagnostics, to include medium and high throughput molecular platforms, as well as molecular assays

  • MSL will cover microbiology related assays and lab automation

  • MSL will cover point-of-care antigen testing and molecular testing

  • Works as BD’s Institutional Representative to execute educational presentations and objectives pertinent to our Business Unit IDS

  • Heightens awareness of disease management practices and guidelines to our healthcare provider and external partners

  • Develops education and training programs to HCP (Healthcare Professionals) audiences on BD product requirements for specimen collection, product offerings and result interpretation

  • Improves clinician education and engagement through educational and clinical support

  • Work with US and global product marketing teams

  • Addresses unsolicited off-label questions from the field

  • Works as a partner with global medical science liaison team

  • Works in partnership with medical writing team on manuscript and abstract development

  • Uncovers and shares competitive intelligence in a timely and appropriate manner.

  • The role will include up to 60% US travel, focused on West/East coast

Qualifications:

Experience and Education:

  • MD, DO, PhD; PharmD, or NP

  • 3 to 5 years of clinical experience examining patients and/or with experience in infectious disease and microbiology

  • 2 to 3 years previous MSL experience preferred

  • Past experience in molecular or microbiology diagnostics preferred

  • Adept with presentation delivery and preparation

  • Ability to identify unmet medical, educational and research needs within the medical community.

  • Strong knowledge of molecular and microbiology diagnostics and experience working with these tests

  • Clear comprehension of scientific principles, and of evidence-based medicine practice

  • Excellent organizational, leadership, and presentation skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple working streams simultaneously

  • Ability to read and analyze scientific research papers

  • Excellent verbal and written communications and interpersonal skills. Ability to adjust to multiple communication styles

  • Critical thinking, strategic, and analytical skills and a team approach to problem solving and decision-making
