What is expected of you for success in your role?

  • Lead and manage a team of mechanical engineers and designers on the Advanced Drug Delivery Systems R&D team. This includes employee development, technical expertise development, hiring, staffing, and performance management.

  • Provide leadership to the team in the achievement of department, division, and corporate goals, enhancing staff skills, and cultivating customer engagements.

  • Expand engineering, problem-solving, and lean agile development techniques and improve skill sets in Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (multi-cavity injection molding and high-speed assembly) methodologies.

  • Provide Engineering expertise to both direct staff and supported product development programs in complex systems design (Mechanical focus).

  • Ability to work with Engineers and Designers in coordinating the generation of accurate, presentable engineering drawings from redlines or other design schematics provided

  • Ability to work with external parties (clients, vendors, consultants) to coordinate all project specific CAD related work and resolve any issues that may arise

  • Support the Design and Engineering team through the development, management and harmonization of modern CAD Platform Standards and Tools to ensuring consistent CAD/Drawing output while minimizing impact to the Design team

  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to translate their needs into product requirements.

  • Ensure that staff’s work products are of BD quality.

Qualifications Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or other technical fields of study; Systems Engineering focus preferred.

  • Strong technical leadership skills.

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience performing product design and development activities on complex plastic mechanisms. 2 or more years of experience in a leadership capacity.

  • A demonstrated track record of technical leadership and delivering results.

  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Ability to tactfully advise decision-makers.

  • A dedication to delivering on organizational goals.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience developing safety-critical medical device systems, working with multi-disciplined teams.

  • Experience across the entire device lifecycle, from inception, through design, construction, testing, and commercial launch.

  • Experience with SolidWorks, PDMWorks and Siemens Team Center

  • Experience managing highly-skilled, technical specialists.

  • Experience with tolerance stack-up analysis for complex mechanical assemblies

  • Experience providing guidance for FEA analysis and in interpreting results

  • Experience managing and assessing external vendors work and capabilities

  • Experience generating imaginative yet practical technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems.

  • Experience contributing to culture of innovation by proactively generating novel concepts to improve product performance or enhance products' ability to address customer needs.
