Job Description SummaryThe High Hazard/Process Safety Sr. Manager is responsible for the integration of PSM and Operational Excellence principles to enhance the overall compliance, performance, and productivity of facility operations. The position is responsible for the organizational learning and facilitation of incident investigation, causal factor analysis, and preventative actions utilizing the core elements of PSM, Lean Manufacturing, and other productivity toolsets. He/she is to enhance operational excellence and best practices through knowledge sharing, process optimization, and implementation of PSM/High Hazard elements in partnership with the BU EHS Leaders. The Leader anticipates and understands key opportunities and business needs, as well as how they can be enhanced with Operational Excellence and PSM principles. This leader will also be a member of the Global Property Protection team bringing functional expertise to enable comprehensive oversight of FM audits. This role collaborates and participates on the Corporate EHS Audit team as needed. The position is a member of the Corporate EHS Compliance and Governance team and reports directly to the Governance and Compliance Leader.

Job Description

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • In partnership with BU EHS leaders, assist sites in developing a comprehensive and strategic approach to the effective implementation of the BD High Hazard/PSM Program that includes and not limited to: PHA execution and follow-up to ensure timely closeout of findings; and effective implementation of HHO/PSM program elements; development of KPIs; training and assuring compliance.

  • Develops and implements key performance indicators (leading and lagging) to track the progress of BD High Hazard/PSM program.

  • Establishes and leads the PSM/HH network where key metrics are tracked, training is cascaded and best practices are shared to elevate the awareness and knowledge globally.

  • Provides leadership, council and technical assistance in the field of process safety management Trains associates on PHA analysis and develops facilitators and subject matter experts; identifies process safety knowledge gaps and potential solutions.

  • Develops and provides training forums on PSM program elements and effectively rollout implementation in partnership with the BU EHS Leaders.

  • Provides a level of oversight on incident investigations and root cause analysis related to High Hazard operation incidents Develops HH/PSM Corporate Safety alerts when applicable to ensure learnings are shared across BD.

  • Leads/facilitates PHA/hazard evaluations of each phase of a large project or a new process. Evaluate new processes and modify existing processes and facilities to meet new requirements.

  • Works in tandem with the maintenance organization to develop, coordinate and evaluate maintenance programs for highly technical equipment for High Hazard Operations.

  • Participates on teams responsible for implementing new products and processes related to High Hazard/PSM

  • Participates on the Global Property Protection team (GPPT); provide feedback and guidance on project reviews and is an integral and active team member

  • Partners with Corporate Risk, our insurance carrier, and site management to meet Fire Loss and Prevention activities; facilitates understanding of inspection findings, leads negotiations if needed and monitors completeness.

  • Participates on the Corporate EHS Audit team as necessary.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • 50% travel requirements

  • Strong interpersonal skills, essential in dealing with people at all levels and in a variety of functions includingtechnical staff, business team leaders, union personnel and be able to influence and motivate others to quickly achieve results; good training skills

  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements, procedures and legislative process.

  • Excellent communication skills, personal rapport and motivation are required to effectively coach internal staff and work with outside groups and agencies engaged in process safety; experience in applying technology through teamwork

  • Ability to work in a diverse team environment including interactions with technical staff, operation leaders, cluster leaders, and contract personnel.

  • BS degree in chemical or mechanical engineering or relevant science background preferred

  • 7-10 years experience in a PSM regulated environment

  • Auditing certification preferred but not required EXPERIENCE

  • Experience in a PSM environment and leading PSM programs

  • Experience in Fire Loss and Prevention activities including involvement with insurance carrier

  • Experience in auditing
