Job Description Summary
The Senior Director, Strategy is a highly visible, influential, and interactive position that serves as an expert resource and strategic advisor to the leadership team in the assessment of a variety of strategic initiatives. This position will assist the SVP, Strategy and IR in implementing a variety of strategic initiatives including the Strategic Planning process (Annual Strategic Review-ASR) for BD on an enterprise-wide basis, and other special projects as defined.
This position helps define and shape corporate strategy, understand industry trends, evaluate market opportunities, and support leadership in aligning resources to execute and deliver on those strategies. Initiatives will include long range planning, corporate strategy development, ad hoc initiatives to support Executive Leadership, and support of portfolio planning. This is a high-profile position which provides the opportunity to work with senior leadership across the organization.
Ensure the delivery of strategic objectives through the enablement of a best-in-class strategic planning process.
Engage with key stakeholders across our business to build and refine our Corporate Strategy; primarily focused on complex topics such as global expansion, product investment, customer engagement models and entering new markets.
Partner with senior leadership to develop the company’s long-term strategic plan distilling technology, market, and product insights from a variety of internal and external sources.
Partner with the leadership team to clearly articulate BD’s corporate strategies to internal and external audiences including BD’s board of directors.
Drive the analysis of strategic risks and opportunities for the corporation and facilitate decision making by the executive team.
Lead key aspects of 3-year Annual Strategic Review (ASR) for BD, including facilitation of organizational process strategy development and presentations and incorporation of business, segment, and regional strategy development and discussions.
Planning and Portfolio Management: Guide strategic direction and support quarterly planning, resource allocation process, value realization and standards Planning & Portfolio Management processes across the organization while leveraging the PMO.
Build tools, processes, and relationships with leaders to understand drivers behind business performance.
Strategic Thinking: Bring outside-in thinking to the organization, highlighting industry trends that should be considered and evaluated.
Outcome and Metrics Tracking/Reporting: Work closely with leaders across the organization to support their development of KDGs; ensure that our key efforts and initiatives are aligned to our strategic priorities.
Keep abreast of the emerging changes in the health care trends.
Assist the SVP, Strategy & IR in special projects as defined.
Qualifications / Key Attributes
Four-year college degree in Science, Engineering, Business Administration or related field.
MBA from a top tier academic institution, or equivalent preferred.
+10 years of experience in finance-related background, with at least 7 years of experience in business consulting, medical devices, biotech, or pharmaceutical industry preferred.
Demonstrated ability to envision, develop, gain support for and implement creative business models and partnerships.
Adept at change management. Strong presentation skills and ability to communicate effectively with senior executive levels within the organization.
Creative out-of-the-box thinker with experience in leading disaggregation of complex problems and change management.
Comfort with ambiguity and the ability to identify and define business questions and issues and develop strategic, analytical and financial frameworks to conduct analysis and conclusions.
Excellent problem-solving ability; can take data and tell an insightful story to drive strategic recommendations.
Demonstrate strong leadership and significant influence management skills with the ability to gain credibility with Sr Leadership while challenging the status quo.
Strategic mindset with an ability to think broadly, refine questions, and develop analytical frameworks.
