The Senior Financial Analyst - R&D reports to the Sr. Finance Manager – R&D and is primarily responsible for supporting the R&D Functional leadership team. On occasion, the Senior Financial Analyst may also be asked to provide support to other Corporate Finance activities as the need arises. The Senior Financial Analyst is expected to provide the necessary financial, business and analytical reporting support to the R&D Leadership team members as needed.

BD has recently undergone two large acquisitions, with the most recent acquisition (C.R. Bard) occurring in December, 2017. Over the coming months we will be working on shaping the future state of the organization as we bring the two companies together. The Senior Financial Analyst is expected to play an important role in helping to chart out, implement, and ensure ongoing alignment across the enterprise in the areas of responsibility outlined below.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Deliver value-added finance support to R&D Leadership team in a variety of business planning and analysis areas including:

  • Monthly close and results analysis

  • Forecasts and budgets

  • Provide meaningful macro level analysis on entity wide basis for the R&D project portfolio

  • Other decision support

  • Identify and implement FP&A best practices within the R&D organization to ensure consistency and adoption across the legacy and newly acquired Business Units.

  • Focus on maintaining previously designed and implemented standards related to the CareFusion acquisition

  • Defining and implementing new best practice standards as we integrate the most recent acquisition.

  • Help establish and manage effective portfolio prioritization and project analysis activities

  • Participate in cross-business best practice exploration

  • Establish/build portfolio management and business case best practices and tools

  • Act as coach to other finance and operational partners in developing business cases and tracking results

  • Foster clear, two-way, fact based communications with business partners and the broader finance team

  • Embrace continuous improvement, partnering with others to execute improvement initiatives

  • Provide support for dashboard creation and best practices

  • Translating data into actionable information for executives

  • Developing layouts that provide data in a digestible format that clearly tells the story

  • Ability to work under tight deadlines with a high level of attention to detail


  • Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting required (or other highly analytical degree with MBA)

  • MBA preferred

  • Technical Experience

  • Minimum 4 years of experience in financial planning and analysis

  • Analytical background with extensive business case modeling required

  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel required

  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft PowerPoint required

  • Strong presentation and communication skills

  • Excellent verbal and written Skills

  • Financial reporting system experience – SAP, HFM, and BPC experience a plus

  • Experience supporting an R&D organization a plus

  • Qlikview experience a Plus

  • Other Skills / Capabilities
