The Diabetes Care Operations team is looking for an experienced Senior Manager of Global Continuous Improvement to join our team and organization. This leader will play an essential role delivering manufacturing excellence and customer-centric improvements to our products and processes around the world. The ideal candidate will have a consistent track record of excellence within medical device manufacturing, who has influenced and delivered operational improvement within a high-volume manufacturing business.

Reporting to the WW Assoc. Director of Continuous Improvement, the Global CI Manager will be a leader in the development and execution of Diabetes Care's Continuous Improvement strategy. This position will lead business efforts to generate, plan, and implement key Operations programs for product and manufacturing process improvements across the entire Diabetes Care Injection portfolio.

The DC Continuous Improvement Program is founded upon two key pillars which enable delivery of 6% cost-of-goods savings annually: Manufacturing Site Continuous Improvement and our Enterprise / ReLoCo Program. The Global CI Manager is responsible for oversight and delivery of the DC Enterprise + ReLoCo Change-to-Win portfolio. This includes:

  • Customer-centric product improvements which drive improvement within the value stream, inclusive of products manufactured for other BDX business units

  • Manufacturing process improvements which impact multiple DC sites

  • Alternative materials projects of significant impact

  • Projects which deliver value, as seen through regional OCOS (Other Cost of Sales) P&L, enabling profit growth in our regional businesses

In summary, this role is responsible for delivering customer-focused cost-improvements while ensuring our financial and operational goals are achieved. The incumbent will lead programs and projects with remote cross-functional teams, oversee and monitor portfolio execution, and track program financial performance

The incumbent will work with key stakeholders as well as business and operations leaders to develop, prioritize, and execute upon a portfolio of projects to impact landed costs of syringes, swabs, and pen-needles.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Lead Inter-site + Business-wide Initiatives: Develops technical and business rationale for projects which scope improves manufacturing costs at multiple DC sites, or requires changes to the form, fit, or function of a Diabetes Care product. Responsible for driving these projects from conceptualization to completion. These initiatives specifically will deliver improvements in product design, manufacturing process optimization, and elimination of the seven wastes of manufacturing. A key aspect of this role will be working across BDX business units, especially within the BD Medical segment.

  • Ownership of DC Enterprise CTW Project Portfolio: Responsible for oversight and management of the portfolio of projects led outside the manufacturing sites. Works closely with Business Unit and Manufacturing Site Finance teams to ensure accurate reporting of savings.

  • Operational Analytics: Build and use financial and production models to support program conceptualization, prioritization, and execution. Will support conceptualization and lead focused improvement efforts at the sites.

SCOPE OF ROLE

Strategic Impact/Accountability

This position works across the Diabetes Care Operations network. Is accountable for delivery of key programs and project achievements. Accountable for multimillion-dollar project portfolio. Plays a meaningful role in implementing short and long-term Operations strategy.

Scope of Influence

Works with many functional areas including R&D, Supply Chain, Operations, Quality, Procurement, Finance, Platform Leadership and Marketing. Works across all regions in Diabetes Care, to uncover waste (e.g., in the distribution chain). A key Operations leader, responsible for collaborating with site Continuous Improvement and Operations teams, supporting site-portfolio planning and other medium and long-term effort at plants and sites. Role may involve direct or dotted-line functional management of CI personnel.

Impact to site and business P&L of 1.5% COGS

Degree of Accountability (discretion/supervision)

Works independently or leads small team of engineers. Matrix leads cross-functional teams. Reports to WW Director of Change-To-Win. Responsible for program deliverables, accountable for financial results. This role may directly or indirectly functionally manage CI Staff, including full-time and contract personnel.

Decision Making

Role leads CI efforts across Diabetes Care, inclusive of products manufactured for other BD businesses. Person is responsible for broad project planning and programs.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

Education
  • Four-year degree in engineering, operations, or business required.
Experience
  • Ten years of experience in engineering, R&D, manufacturing, or operations. Experience in BD manufacturing environment highly preferred. High-volume manufacturing experience required.

  • Must be a proven change leader across a significant organization

  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing, developing standard processes, writing procedures, mentoring, and training groups of associates required

Required Skills and Knowledge
  • Technical area of expertise: Engineering, Operations, and Project Management.

  • Knowledge and experience in manufacturing, project management, and engineering within a GMP medical device environment (preference, but not required). Ability to lead cross-functional projects with geographically diverse teams

  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects with varying SQDC impact

  • Understanding of basic operations finance principles required

  • Good understanding of Integrated Business Process for critical functional areas: Operations/Mfg., Supply Chain, R&D, Quality, Regulatory, and Customer Facing

  • Knowledge of BDX SAP system.

  • Able to influence with and without authority; demonstrates leadership, coaching, and mentoring skills.

  • Very strong organizational and communication skills.

  • Demonstrates the ability to effectively interact with all levels internal to our organization as well as external stakeholders.

  • Able to concurrently manage large projects that span multiple sites and business units.

  • Six-sigma certification preferred

  • Lean Leader certification preferred

  • Basic knowledge of Quality Management Systems in a medical device environment
