This high impact role is responsible for leading the engineering design and analysis function for the Vascular Management Systems (VMS) and Injection Systems (IS) business groups within the Medication Delivery Solutions business unit. The Sr. Manager will provide technical, process and people leadership to this strategically critical function supporting all new product development and product engineering programs under the business groups.

This Sr. Manager will build functional excellence in detailed engineering design built upon deep subject matter expertise in key foundational technology domains. This team will implement DFSS and DFM rigor throughout the design selection and development process, leveraging and deploying empirical, statistical and analytical tools which will improve design decisions and reduce design iteration cycle times. Collaborating with the System Design and Design Integration teams, this team will deliver sound and verifiable design specifications that fully meet customer and business requirements.

As a highly cross-functional role, the Sr. Manager and the team will also collaborate with multiple organizations across geographies within BD including the Materials COE, the Biomaterials Testing COE, the Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) COE, and the Analytical Chemistry COE as well as with Marketing, Quality, Regulatory, Manufacturing Technology Innovation, and Operations.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Attributes:
  • Deep understanding of disciplined product development through phase gate processes, regulatory and quality requirements

  • Advocates and mentors for areas such as Design-for-Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) including a quantitative understanding of 6-Sigma analysis, Design-of-Experiments (DOE), and Design-to-Cost ( DTC ) and Root Cause Analysis and Problem Solving and other tools for improved design and manufacturing practice.

  • Demonstrated development and implementation of R&D organizational tools, processes, standards and metrics, including establishment of best practices.

  • S/he should also have a demonstrable history of attracting, developing, and empowering technical talent, with an emphasis on building engineering competencies and excellence.

  • The candidate will have a reputation and record of effective collaboration with peers, subordinates and superiors as well as outside advisors and customers.

  • Budget development and management.

  • Organizational planning and development including resource planning and hiring.

  • The candidate must be a self-starter, have a strong work ethic, and have a track record of effective change management. Experience as a creative problem solver, a passion for continuous improvement, and the ability to work independently and within a team setting are all required attributes.

  • Business acumen to align product design and development actions with business objectives, knowledge of business context and goals, knowledge of legal agreements and IP processes.

Education

  • BS degree in Engineering discipline, MS/PhD preferred

  • 8+ years of Engineering experience and Project/Product Management expertise
