Job Description SummaryThe Sr. Data Science Manager is a statistical expert within the Global Clinical Development (GCD) statistics team who will apply appropriate statistical methodology in data science and utilize large external and internal databases containing information relevant to BD’s human investigations to support strategic requirements and drive innovation, business-making and the setting of strategies and priorities. This role will work with a team of individuals from the statistics team as well as Medical Affairs (MA), Information Systems (IT), Health Economics & Outcomes Research (HEOR), Global Health (GH), Digital Health (DH) and others to identify and utilize internal and external sources of data that will provide information, analytics and insights to GCD and other functional teams. This role will also build and lead a team of data scientists in the future.

Job Description

Primary Responsibilities and Duties

  • Be a statistical expert and apply appropriate statistical methodology in solving multidisciplinary problems in machine learning, data mining and predictive modeling.

  • Work on large scale real-world health data for evidence generation and drive innovation via the use of data driven insights to business functions.

  • Build and advocate data-driven evidence that help cross-functional partners improve outcomes.

  • Drive the interaction and partnership between the GCD statistics team and the business units. Ensure close cooperation in identifying and defining analytical needs and generating business insights and evidence.

  • Lead data stewardship activities for the GCD statistics team including strategy for accessing, linking and analyzing internal and external large databases.

  • Lead evaluation of current and future data assets including partnerships for sourcing data and analytics tools.

  • Provide leadership on matters pertaining to the utilization of data, implementation of the analytics strategy and tactics. Ensure a broad understanding of the value of analytics and insights to the product value demonstration.

  • Lead advanced analytical initiatives to uncover new business opportunities and insights.

  • Build and lead a team of Data Scientists to support business needs.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of MS, PhD strongly preferred, in Statistics, Data Science, or related quantitative discipline

  • Minimum 5 years of experience with PhD and 8 years of experience with MS in relevant areas of Data Science and proven capability in applying appropriate statistical methodology in solving complicated problems

  • Accomplished academic background in health data applications

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, proficiency in data interpretation, delivering messages with impact to internal and external customers

  • Ability to lead cross functional efforts and teams

  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team setting

  • Updated in data science related methodology, applications and algorithms
