Job Description Summary
The BD Medication Delivery Solutions (MDS) Materials Center of Excellence has an exciting opportunity for a highly talented and passionate individual.The successful candidate will be responsible for leading and driving new material technology programs to enable product differentiation to meet current and future clinical unmet needs.
The candidate should have knowledge and experience in:
- Polymeric materials for sensor-based applications related to medical device applications.This could include electrochemical, electromagnetic, optical, stimuli-responsive elastomers,or other smart material developments.
Additionally, the candidate must possess a deep understanding of the linkage between material molecular architecture and signals produced through deformation, force, pressure, etc.The candidate is expected to be able to plan, lead, and develop a cross-functional team to successfully drive projects from concept to manufacturing.This includes taking on strong and clear accountability for program success and coaching associates to develop a deep talent bench.
Conceive and develop novel sensor and actuation materials using the principles of materials science, bio-chemical and physical chemistry, as well as advanced processing technologies.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop technology and processes for new MDS and/or interventional products
Create and promote an environment in which technical innovation can flourish through empowerment, encouragement, and support.Recognize and reward risk taking and rule changing solutions that enable business growth.
Implement efficient and effective technology transfer from research and development to manufacturing
Identify and establish working relationships with external technology partners
Mentor and develop associates in related technical roles and provide frequent feedback
Effectively communicate, orally and written, project progress both within the team and to senior leadership
Demonstrate agility and action when facing change and uncertainty while instilling confidence.
Responsible for project planning, budgeting, scheduling and tracking for new products.
M.S.: 8+ years of relevant industrial experience
Ph.D.: 5+ years of relevant industrial experience
Degree: Polymer science, chemical engineering, materials science, biomedical engineering or related degrees
Working experience in material development as it relates to sensory, actuation, and/or novel stimuli-responsive materials.
Technical depth in material science and sensor-based technology
Experience translating customer needs and performance gaps into material requirements and manufacturing of products.
Track record of innovation
General project management skills with ability to manage multiple projects
Ability to lead cross-functional teams and mentor associates
Willingness to travel globally up to 20%
Preferred Qualifications Include:
Experience in medical device industry strongly preferred; however, not required.
Demonstrated knowledge of engineering principles through work experience including five (5) years of proven and effective project management skills
The incumbent must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the duties and responsibilities.
This position is in an office and laboratory environment and requires the incumbent to sit, stand and perform general office functions. The incumbent may also be required to lift up to twenty five pounds occasionally. The incumbent may be required to stand for extended periods of time. Bending, stooping and reaching are also frequently required
