Job Description SummaryThe WW Synergy Program Leader is responsible for leading cross functional core teams, and extended team members, in large complex vertical integration projects. Additionally this role is accountable to represent and directly manage BD’s long term Operations strategy with regard to manufacturing architecture, technology implementation and material sourcing. Scope includes leading large scale integration projects with direct accountability to the MDS Synergy/Value Capture Program Leader.
The WW Synergy Program Leader leads the team in executing all aspects of vertical integration projects including successful design verification and technology transfer to strategic long-term manufacturing locations within BD. This leader is ultimately responsible for the execution, quality and results of his or her project and the success of the resulting products in the market. This leader is responsible for the creation of the project work breakdown structures, integrated business plans and product requirements. They manage day-to-day activities of team members, tracks progress against plan, manages the project budget, identifies project risks and provides plans to mitigate those risks. This role works diligently to deliver the targeted projects for the BD Integration Management Office (IMO) to performance expectations, on-time and on-budget.
The WW Synergy Program Leader is responsible and accountable to lead and direct cross-functional activities and outcomes including:
Leading large complex vertical integration programs
Actively managing the relationships, interactions, and deliverables with BD’s manufacturing framework (internally and externally to BD)
Planning resource requirements and negotiating team resource assignments with functional managers within a business and/ or across business units
Leading the creation of the cross-functional project plans, including budget and resource planning, to fulfill project deliverables
Aligning and managing all cross-functional activities to deliver the projects on time and on budget while meeting all agreed upon technical, operational, business and customer requirements.
Negotiate, resolve personal/team conflicts and project/functional conflicts, and drive consensus among team members to accomplish project and business goals
Defining, refining, and understanding customer requirements
Successfully track progress to requirements, plan and resolve deviations
Providing work definition and direction to the assigned cross-functional Core Team Members.
Providing coaching and mentoring to Core Team members and providing significant feedback to functional leaders regarding training needs of, and resources required by the core team, and managing the operation resources dedicated to the project.
Has responsibility for directly supervising, mentoring and coaching the activities or both direct reports and core team members.
Providing meaningful and significant input to the performance of core team members that is fully considered in their year-end performance reviews and compensation recommendations.
Leads timely project updates with the Synergy/Value Capture and Cost to Win management teams and associated reporting metrics
Contributes to the continuous improvement in organization's ability to execute programs and projects from initiation through launch.
BS degree in an engineering discipline, preferably mechanical. Masters preferred.
10 + years successful project & program management experience with new and complex medical devices, and least 2 years of managing people.
Six Sigma, PMI training preferred
Has successfully completed multiple complex, cross functional medical device projects from concept through launch
15 + years medical device high volume manufacturing experience
Experience developing Class II & III medical devices
Must be a skilled and determined communicator and negotiator
Must have strong leadership skills and be very relationship and collaboration oriented
Ability to travel approximately 25%
