As part of our ongoing efforts to drive Simplification across the company, we are scaling our Shared Services model into a Global Business Services (GBS) function. We are seeking a talented and experienced GBS professional to lead that transformation.

Reporting to the Executive Vice President of Technology and Global Services Leader, the GBS Leader, designated as Vice President – Global Business Services (JG7/7+) will be responsible for leading this phase of evolution of our GBS function. The role, based in Franklin Lakes NJ, will have direct visibility to the CEO, CFO, CHRO and the Executive Leadership team.

Position Summary

VP – Global Business Services (GBS), in conjunction with the Executive Leadership Team, will be responsible for the leadership of all strategic, commercial, operational, financial, and human capital activities of our current Shared Services organization and partner organizations e.g., Genpact, HCL. The GBS Leader will be an effective partner with the BD Leadership team in refining and executing the Global Business Services growth strategy.

Key initial priorities for the GBS Leader include:

  • Craft a compelling and inspirational vision for the future of GBS that will resonate with associates, functional & business leaders, and the BD Executive Leadership team (ExLT)

  • Develop, articulate, and execute a fact-based, focused GBS strategy and portfolio plan for both the short and longer term that drives sustainable efficiency and cost effectiveness

  • Successfully execute the strategic outsourcing deal (Project Hexagon) to achieve the business case and deliver on the evolution of GBS capabilities

  • Deliver near term Shared Services programs and transitions successfully. Continue to be an advocate to expand the scope of processes and functions that can be served through GBS model

  • Design, assess and adjust the GBS culture while assessing and developing organizational capability at all levels, coaching and mentoring employees and bringing on additional talent as needed to accomplish the function’s strategic objectives

  • Deliver ongoing efficiencies via process simplification and automation that improves satisfaction of functional and business owners

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop a comprehensive GBS strategy that aligns with the company's overall business strategy

  • Gain a thorough understanding of the cost structure and drivers of the business

  • Identify initiatives and programs that GBS can enable to continually improve and

enhance the process and cost effectiveness of the company

  • Identify and execute both strategic and opportunistic transitions that add to GBS’s offerings, in conjunction with the key functional, regional, and business leaders

  • Provide oversight to the day-to-day operations of GBS across all in scope functions, with an emphasis on driving a customer focused culture

  • Establish key performance metrics and monitoring processes to measure the success of the GBS transformation

  • Ensure external partners deliver outcomes as outlined in the terms of the agreement to optimize value for BD. Proactively address issues to ensure they are remediated and recoup any penalties due to optimize operational and financial performance

  • Regularly engage and manage relationships with the ExLT, key stakeholders and process owners to update on GBS performance, opportunities, potential risks, and strategic direction

  • Develop organizational talent at all levels, coach and mentor employees, and recruit talent needed to accomplish GBS's strategic objectives

  • Work with cross-functional teams to implement transformation initiatives, including process improvement, automation, and organizational redesign

  • Drive the creation, adoption and harmonization of best practices and standard processes across the GBS function

Candidate Profile

The VP – Global Business Services will be a seasoned business leader, ideally from the healthcare industry, with a proven track record of driving process and cost transformation through world class Global Business Services. S/he will be both an inspirational leader as well as a fact-based decision maker with a track record for delivering on operational and financial targets while holding him/herself and their team accountable. This individual will have expertise in customer partnering, business demand management, shared services & outsourcing with a sophisticated understanding of the business environment. The leader will understand the power of branding and marketing to drive the GBS agenda. This leader will be a strong communicator who can paint a clear vision that inspires others to deliver value for the enterprise and results in sustainable positive change.

Ideal Experience

  • Global Transformation Experience

  • Experienced professional with enterprise-level functional/business transformation experience (e.g., Finance, R&D, Procurement, IT, professional services, M&A) or Shared Services background. Experience in positioning or transforming a company or major functions through a network of internal Shared Services and strategic external partnerships / outsourcing.

  • Relevant Industry Experience

  • Extensive experience within the medical technology industry; has knowledge of and experience with the regulatory aspects of Quality, R&D and other technical functions.

Strategic Partnership Management experience

  • Experience establishing and maintaining relationships at senior executive levels with vendors/partners to managing outcomes to contract terms and conditions through robust communication and management processes.
