SUMMARY

BD Biosciences' (BDB) business success has historically been driven by scientific leadership supported by a suite of flow sorters and analyzers. In the current competitive environment, it is critical that BDB remains the scientific leader in immunology, immune-oncology and cell analysis. This leadership is critical to support both the research and clinical focus areas of BDB.

The BDB VP, Medical & Scientific Affairs will continue the tradition of strong medical and scientific leadership, KOL engagement and partnership, innovation and industry influence. The BDB VP, Medical & Scientific Affairs will be a member of the BDB Leadership team, the BDB Innovation Council, the BDB RDLT, the CMO’s leadership team and Clinical Claims and Data Review Board.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead all Medical and Scientific Affairs and application activities of the integrated BDB/Genomics organization

  • Be the thought leader for the medical and scientific applications of our current and future products being able to influence the BDB leadership team and new product development via close partnership with the business area VP/GMs and Platform Leaders.

  • Lead Medical & Scientific Affairs for the translation of scientific applications to clinical assays and applications, oversight for Medical & Scientific input into Innovation, New Product Development and Clinical Evidence Generation Strategy. Accountable for medical risk management and post market safety for all marketed products

  • Collaborate with customers and key external thought leaders to infuse BDB R&D processes with new ideas and customer insights, and increase the effectiveness of Platform commercialization activities

  • Drive applications development of both existing and new products, advancing front-end scientific and clinical innovation

  • Downstream from product development, drive collaboration with counterparts in commercial organization to encourage rapid adoption of BDB’s products and solutions and expand customer utilization of existing products and solutions through development of application content and generation of evidence.

  • Upstream to product development, drive collaboration with customers and key thought leaders to identify trends in science and medicine, unmet customer needs and potential new applications, workflows and solutions that could be brought into the innovation system for assessment and investment consideration, emphasizing feasibility and complementing the focus of the technology development element.

  • Advance Multi-Omics and customer focused strategies, in collaboration with general managers, marketing, and R&D.

  • Demonstrate leadership excellence by engaging and developing a team of highly capable associates who can infuse scientific expertise throughout the organization via the projects they work on. Empower teams to make decisions and drive innovation.

  • Be a team player in the BDB Leadership team: constructively challenge where appropriate and be a positive force in supporting business outcomes.

IDEAL EXPERIENCE

  • Physician-scientist in immune-oncology with translational science experience and experience with clinical IVD development.

  • 10+ year demonstrated scientific leadership and authority

  • Track record of original research, publications, academic collaborations, and/or relevant product development experience.

  • Pharma, biotech or CRO product development experience

  • Track record of science-based innovation, applications development and/or product development in industry setting.

  • Prior experience as external, scientific spokesperson at the corporate or business unit level

  • Will have served as Scientific Affairs leader or similar role with a demonstrated ability to engage and influence academic research leaders, other key opinion leaders, clinicians, and other important stakeholders and customers.

  • MD, PhD in Biological Sciences

  • Preference for PhD in immunology or related discipline.
