Summary of Position with General Responsibilities:

Operate computer numerically controlled machine and/or machining centers. Perform multiple machining operations on various materials, as well as perform required dimensional and visual inspections.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Learn to operate machining equipment per specified procedures.

  • Learn to position non-preset and preset tooling in machine, position and adjust fixturing, and prepare ancillary equipment in an expeditious manner.

  • Learn to make preliminary dimensional and visual evaluations using various inspection tools, preparing the process for production.

  • Learn to make offsets and to evaluate cutting tool performance to meet specifications and control process variations.

  • Learn to maintain accurate records of part dimensions, SPC charts and process events.

  • Report malfunctions of equipment and process deviations.

  • After initial training, demonstrates the ability to consistently meet daily production goals while building a high-quality product, part or subassembly to specification.

  • Maintain a neat, clean, and a safe work environment.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Ability to learn to identify and perform adjustments to equipment, machines and devices within the limits of standard methods and procedures.

  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude.

  • Ability to learn and understand SPC, and to utilize various measuring gages and equipment.

  • Ability to work from and read blueprints, follow operating procedures and complete required paperwork.

  • Ability to work with moderate supervision and assistance, as required.

Education and Experience:

  • Understanding of and competency in technology equivalent to 0-2 years of CNC or Conventional Machining experience, in a high-volume micro-machining environment,

  • OR

  • Experience gained through a technical institute supporting CNC or Conventional Machining experience.

  • Knowledge, skills and ability in all related mathematics, communication, and physical skills required to perform the duties encompassed in the position.

Physical Demands:

Occasionally requires light physical effort as in periods of prolonged standing, sitting at machines or work tables or bending, stooping or reaching and/or occasional lifting of items (i.e. up to 30 lbs.).

Work Environment:

3rd shift Sun-Thur 10pm - 6am

May require some exposure to chemicals used in manufacturing processes, requiring some precaution. Some minor inconvenience or discomfort occasionally present in the work situation (moderate noise, disagreeable odors, etc.).

Training Requirements:

On-the-Job, SOP’s required for position and GMP.

Machinist Career Pathway: MACHINE OPERATOR to ASSOCIATE MACHINIST.

  • A minimum of 1-2 years of experience specific to CNC machining or educational equivalent.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in operation of 1-2 groups of machines (e.g. 3 axis mills, multi-axis turret lathes, B axis lathes, CNC multi-axis screw machines, etc.).

  • Regularly meets productivity goals per Finance/Cycle Time Standards.

  • Demonstrated basic troubleshooting knowledge (can regularly identify and replace broken tooling, etc.).

  • Minimal quality issues; no MRR’s related to operator error in the past 6 months.

  • Good communication skills; communicates with oncoming shift and Area Leadership, Engineering Team, etc.

  • Assists with new hire training, as needed.
