Job Description

Summary of Position with General Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Cost Accounting Manager, the Cost Accounting Supervisor will be a key member of the onsite finance team and financial business partner supporting manufacturing operations. This position will perform Cost Accounting functions, including analysis and interpretation of manufacturing variances, inventory and monthly financial reporting, and physical inventory auditing for the BD Puerto Rico operations. Additionally, this position will support the CTW (cost / continuous improvement) program, including capital justification.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Assists in the establishment of sound accounting practices, internal controls, and accounting techniques within the Cost Accounting Section.

  • Audits cycle counts of inventory.

  • Prepares the necessary analysis and schedules to determine and explain monthly manufacturing variances.

  • Establishes and maintains adequate controls over inventory; ensuring all inventory reports are clear and in balance with the general ledger, publishing them (reports) on a consistent basis.

  • Ensures company complies with proper end of month cut offs. Prepares and/or coordinates required journal vouchers to record all transactions within the Cost Accounting Section for the monthly Accounting Closing.

  • Assists the Cost Manager in Annual Budget preparation and any other financial information as requested by external users.

  • Prepares monthly and yearly variance forecast reports.

  • Finance representative with the engineering group for the Company CTW Program and any other program as requested. Prepare the financial justification for all CTW capital projects.

  • Prepares any other Cost Analysis requested.

  • Verifies and approves all Change Request (CR) and any Document Change Notice (DCN) that affect product integrity to assure compliance with BD Accounting Practices with respect to keep cost of products as low as possible.

  • Supports Physical Inventory taking and prepares reports as requested.

  • Assists in the preparation of Monthly Financial Package.

  • Assumes other special activities and responsibilities from time to time as directed.

  • Active participation in the new product transfers as directed.

  • Uses the required clothes and personal safety protective equipment according to operations requirements.

  • Complies with cGMP’s, Quality Standards, and established policies and/or procedures.

  • Supports month end financial closing activities, including posting journal entries. The cost manager is not allowed to post entries in accordance with SOX federal regulations. As such, this position is critical since it is not feasible for all entries to be posted without this role on site.

  • This position facilitates inventory accounting for the site. Inventory is a key focus and goal of both the Humacao plant and global BD Company. This role is necessary to support the operations team in meeting the objectives.

  • Position acts as the main business partner for the site cost to win program. Will be an integral part of implementing the BD Production System.

  • Ensures proper succession planning in line with company objectives.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Fluent in English.

  • PC literate with advanced knowledge in Excel.

  • Teamwork oriented

Additional Desirable Qualifications Skills and Knowledge:

  • Advanced degree preferred.

  • Experience with JDE preferred.

  • Medical Device Experience preferred.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting / Finance.

  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in Cost Accounting in a manufacturing environment.

  • Minimum of one (1) years' supervisory experience
