BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company) Continuous Improvement Engineer in Hunt Valley, Maryland

Job Description Summary

This role is responsible to perform time studies, manual activities method analysis, line balancing, manual activities layout design and any other required engineering study to optimize and maximize efficiencies/OEE for manual activities performed at the site. The scope of the role is not limited to manufacturing processes, it could be also extended to quality inspection activities and any other manual activity at the site.

The Continuous Improvement Engineer (CIE) is also responsible to partner with Master Data coordinator to perform studies that will provide information to regularly update routes and bill of materials (BOM’s).

As part of efficiency and OEE improvement activities, the CIE should partner with production personnel, shift and production leaders providing support to identify personnel abilities, training needs, layout optimization. The CIE is also responsible to design and implement fixtures and devices that can help improve OEE, efficiencies as well as reduce ergonomic and safety concerns.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The primary responsibilities will include:

  • Drive and sustain improvement programs and CI initiatives such as: Problem Solving and Root Cause Analysis, Process Optimization, Waste Reduction, OEE/Productivity, SMED (Quick Changeovers)

  • Facilitate blitzes/kaizens to support the SQDC initiatives

  • Have ownership and accountability for BD Excellence initiatives

  • Perform time studies for manual activities on a regular basis.

  • Design and continuously improve workstations layout and personnel arrangement.

  • Train new and seasoned personnel when changes to workstations layout, new machinery requiring manual activities and need to improve personnel abilities.

  • On a regular basis perform routes and BOM’s studies and provide data to Master Data coordinator

  • Design and implement fixtures and devices to improve manual activities safety, ergonomics and efficiencies.

Minimum Education/Experience:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in industrial engineering, mechanical engineering or a related field.

Knowledge/Skills

The ideal candidate should have a combination of excellent written and oral communication skills, with ability to optimize manual processes. Additionally, the candidate should also possess:

  • Ability to work in partnership with production personnel and leadership

  • Highly collaborative work style, working effectively across all organizational levels

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Autocad and any other mechanical design software

  • Flexibility to work different shifts as needed to perform required engineering studies
