Job Description Summary

As an engineering resource, supports production and the maintenance group correcting equipment breakdowns and completing PM activity as required.

Job Description:

Under the guidance and/or authorization of appropriate supervisor, provide technical support for engineering projects within the Integrated Diagnostic Solutions plant. This support would typically include: the diagnosis of complex problems in manufacturing equipment, development and implementation of solutions to said problems, creation of engineering drawings for new or replacement components to manufacturing equipment, troubleshooting and updates to PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) software, assistance writing operating procedures and validation procedures for manufacturing equipment, assistance performing validations for manufacturing equipment, generation and recording engineering data and results including engineering drawings and reports. As an engineering resource, supports production and the maintenance group correcting equipment breakdowns and completing PM (Preventative Maintenance) activity as required.

Primary Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

  • Conforms to Quality Policies and Procedures asset forth intheBDDS (BD Diagnostics Systems)Quality Manual.

  • Supports division andOSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration)safety policies and guidelines.

  • Supports the manufacturing operation by ensuring the correct operation of manufacturing equipment. This includes diagnosis of complex problems in machine operation and the development and implementation of solutions to these problems.

  • Participates in the design and installation of new manufacturing equipment.

  • Self-Managing: Willself-manageassigned tasks to meet manufacturing goals and schedules.

  • Willmaintainregular contact with lead personnel.

  • Will prioritize and manage multiple and potentially conflicting demands for time and resources.

  • Documentation: Creates andmaintainsappropriate recordsof work including documentation of engineering drawings and test procedures and results.

  • Archives electronic files asrequired.

  • Supervision and guidance: May berequiredtoprovidetechnical guidance to others, such as Maintenance Technicians and Operators.

Education and Experience:

  • 2+ years of relevant and technically progressive experience including test, design,repair,or maintenance of electro-mechanical equipment within a manufacturing environment.

  • Must have High School,GED,orUS (United States)military electronics tech school diploma.

  • Graduate of an applicable college certificate program orAA (Accelerated Aged)technical degree preferred.

Complexity of Duties:

  • Applies technical knowledge to solve unique problems on manufacturing and process control equipment.Familiarity with troubleshooting and programming techniques forPLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), MMI’s, electromechanical sensors and controllers isrequired.

  • Works as member of technical team solving complex problems, implementing engineering upgrades and installations for manufacturing and process control equipment.

  • Plans and executes assignments within guidelines of instructions received from project personnel.

  • Assembles and installs electrical control hardware and wiring. Able to install electrical conduits and raceways for manufacturing equipment and control hardware.

  • Generates engineering and manufacturing process documents.Checks engineering drawings, evaluating correctness of information, accuracy, and logic.

  • Experience with troubleshooting and performing programming changes to ladder logic and manufacturing software including ControlLogix, Studio5000,RS (Repetitive Shock)Logix, Panel Builder, and other PLC and MMI software asrequired. Familiar with the programming of servo-driven systems.Capable of downloading and uploading programs and parameters with laptop software as well as teach pendants.

  • Assistswith integration of complex engineering solutions using software, mechanical and electrical components.

  • Utilizes a wide variety of electrical and mechanical test and fabrication equipment in the execution of assigned tasks. Must be proficient in the use of diagnostic instruments including oscilloscopes, DMMs and logic analyzers.

  • Gathers,correlates,and evaluates test data; generates recommendations used for engineering and review.

  • Shares information efficiently with other areas, particularly Manufacturing,Quality,and product support personnel.

  • Assistswith documentation and drawing updatesutilizingAutoCADand otherCAD (Computer Aided Detection)software asrequired.

Supervision Received:

  • Reports to Manufacturing Engineering Manager ordesignatedSenior Engineer.

  • Appropriate project personnel (typically Project Engineers, Engineering, Manufacturing or Quality Supervisors) will generate high-level instructions for tasks.

  • Some assigned tasks offer latitude for self-management.

  • Some tasks have set procedures; most tasks have deadlines.

  • Technical content of all design and re-design work will be reviewed byappropriate teammember(s).

Contact with Others:

  • Must have good interpersonal skills. Interfaces regularly with members of the Engineering & Process Technology department, Plant Maintenance and Operations personnel.

  • May interface with customers or vendors of manufacturing equipment.

  • May berequiredtoparticipatein the training of maintenance technicians or operators on equipment.
