Position Summary

The Continuous Improvement (CI) Specialist is responsible for leading the continuous improvement activities of the site using Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma principles; leads and sustains the implementation of the BDPS (BD Production System) to create a culture of engagement towards BDPS and Zero Loss attitude. Collaborating with the CI Manager, the CI Specialist works directly with the plant Steering Committee and component teams to educate, communicate, and deliver business results using concepts, methodologies, and tools defined by the Production System.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Leads general cost and process improvement initiatives, internal or external to the plant

  • Leads the BDPS efforts of the site

  • Shares ownership of meeting and/or exceeding business performance goals in the areas of Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost and People by engaging the talent of all associates towards the attitude of zero loss

  • Is a primary point of contact to lead and mentor teams through an effective change process to achieve operational excellence

  • Leads and/or coaches Lean Manufacturing blitzes and Six Sigma projects to eliminate waste and improve business performance

  • Assists in planning, execution and monitoring of continuous improvement activities such as Kaizen Action Sheets program and Gemba Walks

  • Assists in the implementation of Continuous Improvement programs as developed by the Plant Manager, CI Manager, and the Site leadership Team

  • Leads or supports the Strategy Development and Deployment (SDD) through creation of vision, mission, and Y-Charts

  • Meet or exceed C2W (Change to Win) goals through leading and/or supporting Focused Improvement team savings projects. Owns the project ideas hopper of the site

  • Assists in training associates in the use of Lean tools used to achieve CI objectives

  • Develops and mentors Zero Loss attitude through creation and analysis of the loss landscape

  • Reports OEE and waste metrics to the business unit using data provided by the Production areas

  • Lead projects and mentor project teams in problem solving efforts using the DMAIC process to improve quality, reduce cost, improve process efficiencies, etc

  • Provide assistance and be a resource to functional departments and business units in identifying, planning, and implementing Six Sigma projects

  • Capable of developing complex project plans and meeting established due dates

  • Develops standard operating procedures and product specifications

  • Presents and supports the implementation of Cost Reduction Projects including capital requirements

  • Conducts benchmarking in internal and external plant systems and generates recommendations to management

  • Provides technical and business support to Process Engineers, Process Owners and manufacturing personnel in order to complete machinery and processes improvements

  • Active member of the Engineering/Opex Team; develops change control requests, validation protocols, and engineering studies as needed

  • Meets Federal, State and Local Laws and Corporate Policies

  • Frequent comparison and analysis of data against requirements

  • Must have foresight and planning abilities in order to achieve the required objectives

  • Perform manual calculations and must be able to use calculator and personal computer

  • Write clear and neat information in production documentation

  • Travel during the year.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • ISO 9000 and QSR environment exposure

  • Knowledge in Lean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma; Green Belt is preferred

  • Good understanding of manufacturing costs and financial analysis

  • Ability to effectively communicate a variety of topics (strategic, tactical) to various organizational levels. Leadership skills obtained through training with some experience desirable

  • Coaching, mentoring, and communication ability to act as a coach at all levels in the organization

  • Excellent presentation and project management skills; Quality and details oriented

  • Teammate and capable of influencing others

  • Exposure and knowledge on manufacturing systems as SAP

  • Fully Bilingual (Spanish & English)

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Science or Engineering

  • Minimum 3 years related experience in Continuous Improvement, Management, Packaging, Validations, Lean and/or Six Sigma methodology with a valid certification from an industry known trainer preferred
