Job Summary

As directed by the Quality Manager, the Sr. Quality Engineer / Specialist is accountable for supporting new product development, product transfer activities and product maintenance through the application of Quality Engineering skills for medical devices. This person will handle projects and tasks to support setting up the quality system, from product inception through product launch and maintenance. Play an active role in the processes to ensure products meet quality standards consistent with both Corporate and Unit policies, while meeting all design control and other regulatory requirements.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Consistent application of technical principles, theories, concepts and quality sciences/ tools

  • Makes measureable improvements to BD processes and procedures

  • Ensure that all design control and production / process control projects meet applicable regulatory (Local and International), Corporate and Unit requirements

  • Is a project team member representing Quality or new product development, product transfer activities, validations and sustaining engineering projects

  • Review and has Quality Assurance and Engineering approval authority for new and modified design/ process specifications including product performance specifications, test methods, etc

  • Assist with suppliers and internal quality system audits as a means of evaluating the efficiency of the established Quality System and Good Manufacturing Practices

  • Responsible for technical guidance that include investigations, validations, and Product Assessment

  • Contributes to the completion of specific programs and projects

  • Ensure quality conduct of projects, including design, data summary and interpretation and report generation for self and lower-level project developers

  • Prepares/Revises policies/procedures

  • Responsible to perform product complaint investigations

  • Encouraged to make presentations

Knowledge & Skills

  • Works under general direction

  • Independently determines and develops approach to solutions

  • May provide guidance and work direction to lower-level project developers

  • Experience in handling / support projects and tasks to setting up the quality system, from product inception through product launch and maintenance

  • Proven problem-solving and statistical skills

  • Designs and performs development working independently within defined parameters with minimal supervision required

  • Experience in product and process validation

  • Fully bilingual (English/Spanish) with strong written and oral communications skills

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or a related science field

  • A minimum of 5 years relevant experience

  • Experience in medical device, pharmaceutical, or electronic industry

  • Certification as an ASQC certified Quality Engineer, Green Belt certified in Six Sigma, knowledge of document systems and lean manufacturing is preferred
