Key responsibilities

1.Lead and develop a team supporting the Supply Chain Lead (CSL) activity with Global/Strategic/Regional Account Management (GAM/SAM/RAM) customers.

In relation with the sales and supply chain management team, identify key requirements for CSL support on the GAM/SAM/RAM perimeter and structure a team to support business and operational requirements.

Cover the usual manager activities such as the hiring of new individuals, the training and coaching of the team according to CSL strategic goals and associate performance evaluation and review on regular basis.

Develop CSL strategy in compliance with key supply chain expectations from our customers and BD commercial / supply chain long term objectives. Ensure CSL team has the appropriate skills, budget and focus to achieve the team roadmap.

Ensure regular monitoring and reporting of KPI’s tracked by each organization, supply chain and commercial to follow progress versus target.

2.Drive superior levels of performance in the Demand & Supply processes

Coordinate regional supply-chain teams (virtual team: Planning, Customer Service and Logistics) to achieve consistent level of performance in the end to end supply chain (forecasting, order management and delivery), in line with GAM/SAM/RAM customers’ expectations.

Drive continuous improvement initiatives to strengthen performance level through leaner supply chain processes and more effective execution.

Ensure planning and inventory strategies implemented for GAM/SAM/RAM SKUs are in line with GAM’s and business’ objectives.

  • Maintain and update Make to Order (MTO) and Make to Stock (MTS) strategy in coordination with regional Planning

  • Define with regional Planning appropriate inventory levels to deliver against On-Time and In-Full (OTIF) goals while meeting the business’ overall inventory goals

  • Update and align with Sales team.

  • Ensure planning and inventory strategies are shared and agreed with customers.

  • Ensure alignment and common understanding with respect to roles and responsibilities on planning and inventory strategies (incl. order and replenishment lead-times)

Own, drive and develop joint-planning activities (monthly / quarterly):

  • Preparation, and coordination of joint-planning meetings

  • Follow-up of action-plans to maximize the value of such forums

  • Drive the right level of attendance and engagement both at BD and with our customers

  • Ensure joint-planning covers both short and mid/long term horizon (12 to 18 months).

Demand Management: the CSL team contributes to improving forecast accuracy through the development of higher degree of intimacy with the GAM’s supply chain and demand organization.

  • With Support of Sales team and the GAM/SAM/RAM virtual team, CSL focuses on driving improvement of the forecast accuracy on the 0-18 months horizon (however, CSL is not responsible for overall forecast accuracy on the 0-5 years horizon that is the responsibility of Sales).

  • CSL drives regular metrics and action plan reviews with customers to foster continuous improvement of the forecast accuracy.

3.Contribute to developing key competitive advantages through value-added supply chain services

Develop / strengthen supply chain to supply chain relationship with GAM/SAM/RAM accounts at appropriate seniority levels, identify opportunities for higher degree of supply chain integration and access to longer term planning data with those critical customers

In relation with Sales and Supply Chain, support the design, the development and the deployment of value-added supply chain services, with the aim of:

  • Build competitive advantage to increase customer’s loyalty

  • Extract more value from customer

  • Drive more value through OTIF improvement and more agile supply chain

Support the development of a supply chain offer that supports BD Medical-Pharmaceutical Systems (BDM-PS) Europe’s strategy. Contribute to the implementation of the vendor management inventory process or other similar processes and tools to increase efficiency and optimize customers’ Total Cost of Ownership.

Actively contribute to building a business case and defining benefits and conditions of implementation for following supply chain services: consignment stock, reverse logistic for packaging recycling operation, delegation of incoming control and direct shipment from BD to customer plant.

Monitor and timely anticipate future trends and evolving needs in the pharma industry regarding supply chain and inventory management. Translate these into possible new solutions and unique competitive advantages that will benefit both the customers (GAM/SAM and RAM selected accounts) and BD, champion these internally.

4.Support supply chain binding activities and maintain a consistent insurance of supply approach (BCP).

Provide support to Sales and management for structuring the supply-chain-related sections of the supply agreements. Synthetize supply chain mechanisms such as forecast and order management, product management rules (MTO/MTS) or inventory management within supply agreement, in compliance with BDM-PS supply chain and legal strategy.

Build specific Business Continuity Plans (BCP) at customer request including BD plant network mapping, component sourcing alternatives and organization preparedness plan in case of major disruption. Support the development of an integrated BCP approach, consolidating purchasing, manufacturing and business approach.

Consolidate plan at customer request relative to specific pandemic scenarios.

  • Solid understanding of the financial implications of supply chain activity (inventory, excess and obsolete, transportation, and warehousing).

  • Understand Customer Service processes, systems and their reliance and interdependencies on the Plan function. Work in partnership with Customer Service to meet customers’ requirements.

  • Knowledge of I.T. processes and how they affect supply chain processes; Ability to leverage I.T. resources effectively to further improve processes and outcomes.
