BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company) Supply Planner in Mebane, North Carolina

Job Description Summary

Under general supervision, the Planner performs the detailed scheduling function as part of a Supply Chain Team. The Planner will be accountable for the supply management (domestic trade fulfillment and international replenishment) for one or more assigned Plants or Product Hierarchies and for inventory levels for assigned commodities or product lines. The position supports and works closely with Manufacturing Operations, Global Demand Planning and Procurement. The Planner can create and convert approved Master Schedule plans to detailed, sequenced Production Orders on a daily or weekly basis, and assists Manufacturing in managing open orders from Release-to-Close. The position is also responsible for communicating significant current/potential supply performance problems (schedule unfeasibility or non-compliance, material, or capacity imbalances, etc.) to Supply Chain Team and Plant Management. Reports to a Supply Planning Manager.

General:

  1. Converts constrained, feasible Master Production Schedules (Firm Planned Orders) to detailed and executable MRP-generated plans/work orders over an established rolling horizon period and with agreed-upon frequency. Acts independently and routinely performs moderately complex planning and problem solving.

  2. Participates in weekly/monthly Supply Planning Schedule reviews for one or more Work Centers and ensures appropriate follow up of agreed upon actions.

  3. Responsively manages MRP action messages and Heuristic alerts.

  4. Communicates tactical direction and schedule priorities to Manufacturing. Coordinates the generation and prioritization of Material Shortage lists, Past Due’s/Backlog, etc. Communicates capacity/material issues and action plans to key stakeholders as appropriate.

  5. Frequently reviews and maintains the integrity of MRP parameters (batch size, lead times, Days Forward Supply, Safety Stock) and provides data for Key Performance Metrics (Schedule Compliance, Work in Process Inventory Turnover, Projected Inventory at Risk/Stock Loss). Significant variances or potential future risks are explained. Identifies opportunities for inventory reduction and actively supports implementation as directed.

  6. Reviews and updates current product availability information daily (Backorder Reason Code, expected partial/full release availability) and initiates Product Bulletins as required.

  7. Participates in new product introductions, conversions, and End of Life efforts, including the set-up of master data. Supports efforts to ensure SAP data integrity of BOM’s, Routings, and Work Centers.

  8. Coordinates as needed with Buyers for resolution of supplier issues (quality, delivery), or implementation of changes to the supplier base.

  9. Processes Engineering Change Orders or Change Notifications for WIP and Finished Goods.

  10. Periodically reviews and dispositions excess & obsolete, expired inventories & inventories >365FDS.

  11. Champion continuous process improvements within the planning function.

  12. Complies with all GMP, regulatory and ISO guidelines including company policies and departmental procedures.

The Planner

Performs the detailed and more complicated production planning functions as part of a Supply Chain Team and is accountable for the supply management of site product hierarchies and for inventory levels for assigned commodities or product lines.

The position supports and works closely with Manufacturing Operations, Global Demand Planning and Procurement.

Converts approved Master Schedule plans to detailed, sequenced Production Orders on a daily or weekly basis.

In addition, the position is responsible for communicating significant current/potential supply performance problems (schedule un-feasibility or non-compliance, material or capacity imbalances, etc.) to Supply Network Supply Chain Planning, Plant Management and Marketing.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • On a monthly basis, review and interprets forecast demand into a monthly supply plan over an established rolling horizon period and with agreed-upon frequency. Acts independently and routinely performs moderately complex planning and problem solving.

  • On a weekly basis, review MRP for upcoming months demand to stay in front of any unexpected changes.

  • Converts constrained, feasible Master Production Schedules (Firm Planned Orders in a SAP environment) to detailed and executable MRP-generated plans/work orders

  • Acts independently and routinely performs moderately complex planning and problem solving.

  • Converts MRP requirements to purchase orders for identified materials.

  • Initiates Stock Transfer Orders through SAP for inventory replenishment from the source plant to the Distribution Center.

  • Participates and provides input (SCM) for weekly/monthly Supply Planning Reviews for one or more Work Centers and ensures appropriate follow up of agreed upon actions.

  • Responsively manages Action Messages and Alerts, applying criteria-based intervention.

  • Communicates tactical direction and schedule priorities to Buyers, Production Leads, Labeling Coordinator, Quality Assurance and Material Handlers.

  • Frequently reviews and maintains the integrity of MRP parameters (lot/order size, lead times, Safety Stock and others as applicable). Finds opportunities for inventory reduction and actively supports implementation as directed.

  • Participates on Core Teams to effectively execute new product introductions, conversions and rationalization efforts.

  • Monitors demand and inventory to minimize material shortages and resulting backorders. Processes material returns and an active participant in Material Review Board for the timely resolution and disposition of non-conforming materials.

  • Actively identifies and manages the disposition of excess, obsolete or expired inventory. Works with Invoice Processors to resolve payment issues. Initiates purchase part deviation waivers when needed. Processes and executes Change Controls as needed

  • Complies with all GMP, regulatory and ISO guidelines including company policies and departmental procedures.

  • Coordinates the data extraction/reporting, and communication of key performance indicators (inventory, schedule compliance, back orders & line fill) reports to management on weekly and monthly basis.

  • Reviews and updates current product availability (bulletins) daily (Backorder Reason Code, expected partial / full release availability) and initiates Product Bulletins are required.

  • Run weekly production meetings to provide updates and discuss any pending or future issues affecting planning or production. Schedule, coordinate and participate in other meetings as required.

  • Participates in new product introductions, conversions and End of Life efforts, including the set-up of master data. Supports efforts to ensure SAP data integrity of BOM’s, Routings & Work Centers.

  • Provides backup coverage for the Supply Chain Manager as required.

  • Thorough knowledge of GMP and ISO requirements.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience Required :

  • Associate’s degree in business or related field, with a minimum of 3 years related experience or a high school diploma with 4 years of related experience. Experience with ERP systems. Knowledge of SAP, SCM preferred.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point)

  • Experience with GMP, ISO requirements/environment

Education and Experience Preferred :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Logistics or related field. Experience as Planner (MPS/MRP Planning experience) may be substituted for a degree.

  • Certification APICS

  • Exposure to FDA regulated environment

  • Exposure to Lean and/or Six Sigma
