BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company) Product (QC) Development Scientist II in Menlo Park, California

Job Description SummaryThe Scientist II is an integral member of the genomics Product Development R&D team who will participate in the development and evaluation of new QC testing methods for single cell analysis and other genomic reagent products. This position will also be responsible for conducting QC testing of reagents, and will participate in the execution of QC-related assay development experiments. The ideal candidate has experience working within a Quality Management System (QMS), and knows how to work with the Quality group to ensure QC related deliverables for commercial lot release are complete. Has knowledge of product development practices in a commercial setting, as well as verification and validation testing. Participates in product transfer activities, e.g. creates QC related documentation, leads QC technician training and troubleshoots QC data.

Job Description

Primary duties include the following:

  • Conducting routine QC testing, stability, verification and validation experiments according to pre-defined protocols.

  • Supporting and the development of new QC and stability testing methods.

  • Making improvements to existing QC methods.

  • Participating in product transfer activities related to QC testing, e.g. training, troubleshooting and documentation transfer.

  • Working with Quality to ensure QC documentation for finished goods is complete.

  • Working with Quality to follow-up on non-conformances (NC) and corrective and preventative actions (CAPA).

  • Participates in the verification and or validation of new products and processes, i.e. creating procedures, generating data, data analysis and writing reports.

  • Following protocols, preparing product development experiment reports and or QC reports and summaries.

  • Participating in the development of QC data analysis tools and using these tools to analyze data.

  • Presenting data at group meetings.

  • Working according to product development procedures.

  • Contributing to the completion of milestones associated with specific projects.

  • Developing knowledge of BD Biosciences products through training.

  • Continuing pursuit of molecular biology and genomics knowledge through seminars and webinars.

  • Participating in functional and cross-functional training to advance technical capabilities.

  • Promoting a safe work environment. Offers recommendations on maintaining the safety of the work environment. Participates in Environmental Health & Safety programs. Participates in addressing corrective actions whenever a hazard is identified. Notifies supervisor of all observed unsafe work practices.

  • Working under general supervision.

Minimum Knowledge and Skills:

  • Specific knowledge and background in QC testing of molecular products.

  • Demonstrated ability to follow and complete QC testing protocols.

  • General knowledge of molecular biology, biochemistry or a related discipline.

  • Specific knowledge of NGS instrumentation and data analysis.

  • Familiarity with a standard Quality Management System.

  • Familiarity with operation of routine laboratory instruments.

  • Effective oral and written communication skills.

  • Effective interpersonal skills.

  • Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and present data of moderate complexity.

  • Demonstrated ability to write product development reports.

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in a biological science discipline

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience
