BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company) Senior Instruments Engineer in Menlo Park, California

Job Description SummaryBD Biosciences is seeking a highly qualified engineer with demonstrated experience in instrument development to become an integral member of the product development team. The individual will play a key role in prototyping, validation and design of an automated fluid handling instrument for RhapsodyTM, Becton Dickinson’s next generation platform for highly parallelized RNA-seq analysis of single cell populations. The successful candidate will assist with transition of the technology from research to production, as well as working closely with colleagues in assay development.

Job Description

Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to development of an automated fluid handling instrument for novel genetic cytometry systems

  • Assist in the development of architecture for new fluidic systems

  • Define engineering specifications based on customer needs (VOC), product requirements, and design constraints

  • Generate and execute test protocols, analyze data, preparation of reports and presentations at cross functional meetings

  • Hands on development and testing of components and systems

  • Design systems with an emphasis on design manufacturability and serviceability within a cost target

Qualifications:

  • BS or MS degree in engineering + 2 – 3 yrs experience

  • Demonstrated experience in CAD design (Solidworks, Pro/E, or similar)

  • Demonstrated experience in instrument development for medical devices

  • Hands-on person adept at problem solving and troubleshooting

  • Strong communication skills including the ability to create written documentation and deliver technical presentations to a diverse audience

  • Strong analytical skills
