Reporting to the Team Lead for Clinical Solutions & Services, the successful candidate will be dedicated to Ontario with National support as directed. The Clinical Specialist will be responsible for providing clinical leadership to MDS (Medication Delivery Solutions) Territory Managers during field sales visits and/or virtual meetings. The Clinical Specialist with also build strong, working relationships with end users, identify potential KOL’s, support evaluations, conversions, product in-servicing, clinical education programs and expand brand recognition.


The following responsibilities are intended to be representative of the work performed by the incumbent in this position and are not all-inclusive. The omission of a specific duty or responsibility will not preclude it from the position.

Priorities of this position is to actively engage in Pre-Sales, Validations and Conversion/Implementation and ongoing clinical support of BD’s Vascular access management portfolio with a primary focus on Peripheral IV’s and Hazardous Drug Safety products. Based on experience additional responsibilities may include PICC’s, Midlines, Ultrasound, Sherlock and 3CG technology.

Support sales team and work closely with clinical solutions team to align and further develop clinical tools to deliver MDS strategy

Primary focus in the strategic development & execution of clinical programs for our internal and external customers to ensure knowledge and comfort with product applications and optimize use of BD systems tied to MDS strategic plan.

  • Assist Territory Managers in organizing and conducting both on site and virtual clinical education programs to nurses, radiology technicians and physicians, including presentation of information and clinical simulation training.

  • Support trade shows, educational events and National sales meetings as requested.

  • Collaborate with Team Lead to develop the collection of data to support team business case and clinical effectiveness of MDS products.

  • Collaborate with Clinical Practice Specialist and Trainers to ensure programs offered are current and up to date from an evidentiary and regulatory guidelines perspective.

  • Provide routine follow-up support to customers, develop, and maintain a national data base of reference users.

  • Develop strong, working relationships with end-users while providing product in-servicing and clinical education.

  • Mentor team in all aspects of MDS business and clinical responsibilities.

  • Update and maintain custom tools (i.e., portfolio product sample kits, sales aids, product training manuals)

  • Collaborate in the development and presentation of evidence base posters with KOL’s showcasing the clinical outcomes of MDS products; Identify potential KOL’s.

  • Keep up to date with current vascular access and hazardous drug safety trends pertaining to clinical practices, products, techniques and evolving technologies.

  • Be actively involved in Professional Organizations (i.e.: College of Nurses, Canadian Vascular Access Association, Canadian Society of Vascular Nursing etc) that are recognized as being complimentary to BD.

  • Is required to comply with the Health & Safety Policies and Quality Systems Practices of the company and to actively promote a safe working environment; by performing their responsibility in the prescribed manner and raising unsafe working conditions to the attention of Management.

  • Other projects as assigned


The ideal candidate will be a Registered Nurse with at least 5 years of clinical experience in a hospital environment preferably in ICU, Oncology, Interventional Radiology or Emergency Department with a focus on Vascular Access with active PIV insertion including care & maintenance of vascular access devices. Additional experience in hazardous drugs handling is an asset. Preference will be given to clinicians familiar with PICC insertion and USG PIV insertions including BD PICC/3CG technology or safe handling devices for hazardous drug safety.


Qualified candidates will also have the following:

  • Registered nurse with current registration

  • CVAA certified - INS/AVA certifications as asset

  • 5+ years of clinical bedside experience including 2+ years with vascular access devices

  • PICC insertion experience and asset

  • Ability to collect, analyze, and present clinical data.

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to promote products.

  • Strong listening, interpersonal and relationship building skills.

  • Sound understanding of medical and surgical terminology.

  • Understanding of Clinical Practice Guidelines or CPG’s or protocols for key disease states served by MDS products.

  • Ability to manage multiple customers and strong organizational skills.

  • Ability to work independently, with minimal guidance and supervision.

  • Ability to prioritize assignments. Strong time management skills.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft office software.

  • Strong presentation skills and ability to teach clinical data to audiences of varying size.

  • Strong computer and organizational skills.

  • Bilingual in English & French an asset

  • Project implementation experience is considered an asset

  • Must be willing to do overnight travel 50 -60 % of the time and have a valid driver’s license

  • Additional work experience in the medical device industry or outside the hospital environment would be considered an asset. Only those qualified for an interview will be contacted.
