The Canadian division of the company, BD Canada, is looking to welcome a new member to their Finance department as a Senior Financial Analyst, in the General Accounting & Controllership division. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining accounting policies in accordance with US GAAP, preparation of financial reporting deliverables and reconciliations at month-end and year-end, analysis of results across the Balance Sheet and Income Statement, quarterly projection and annual budget forecasting, as well as assistance in oversight of general accounting, compliance, payroll and tax. The candidate should be adaptable in a dynamic, fast-paced and growing environment with an appetite for growth and improvement.

This role is a 14 month contract opportunity and reports directly into the Finance Manager of General Accounting & Controllership.

General Responsibilities

  • Maintain and implement accounting policies and procedures in accordance with US GAAP and ensure that changing standards are adhered to and accounting obligations of the company are met.

  • Support in coordination of month-end and year-end reporting requirements of the department to ensure timely and detailed reporting of financial packages and special reports, as well as specific close procedures.

  • Prepare and review monthly journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations to record GL transactional activity and adjustments in order to maintain complete and accurate accounting records.

  • Analyze balance sheet activity and certain areas of the P&L for reasonability to be able to support reported amounts to management and/or auditors. This includes annual flux commentary reporting to Corporate and other such analysis.

  • Prepare quarterly projection and annual budget forecasts for certain areas of the Balance Sheet and P&L.

  • Support various statistical and compliance related reporting including annual tax returns, transfer pricing documentation, pension audit, internal audit, etc.

  • Prepare various reports in line with reporting requirements from Management, external stakeholders (ex: CRA), Internal Audit, etc.

  • Serve as local liaison between Corporate and the local business with respect to JDE master data and BPC mapping and reporting.

  • Review existing accounting policies, activities, processes and systems and make recommendations to Management on any necessary changes.

  • Assist with leading ah hock assignments and special projects from Management.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • CPA Designation preferred.

  • Bachelors degree in Finance, Accounting, Business or Commerce required

  • 3 to 5+ years of relevant finance experience with a focus on planning, budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and reporting required,. Month end close activities exp preferred

  • Knowledge of accounting policies and procedures – GAAP/IFRS

  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel required (VLOOKUP, macros, pivot tables, etc.)

  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)

  • Excellent time management skills to meet competing deadlines and priorities

  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft tools (PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, Access, etc.)

  • Experience using JDE or SAP ERP system is an asset, but not requirement

  • Experience using BPC (SAP Financial Business Planning & Consolidation tool) is an asset, but not requirement.
